I was wondering if anyone could help me out with another "fatal exception" dillemma. I've been having this trouble for months, and even replaced my CD-Rom, thinking it was the culprit, but no dice. Anyhow, after the shutdown screen I continually get this message: "A fatal exception OE has occurred at 0167:BFF8CC04." I hit enter once and the message reappears, sometimes once, sometimes twice before the computer shuts off. Anyhow, last time this started happening my computer kept crashing until it became unusable, then I replaced the CD-Rom, switched it from "master to slave" and the problem went away. Now, for no apparent reason, it has returned, and I'm freaked out that the crashes will reoccur, which is a serious problem, as my computer is basically my workplace. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

What controler is the cd rom on if it is on the secondary it should be fine as a master ( Like my sytem )
Did you install 98 over 95 or is it a clean install
DId you try the vxd fix from windrivers.com
and did these fatal exceptions start after you installed a software title
First I would go to windrivers.com and go to tech tips by subject and look up the vxd fix and try that out and see if that helps your system
If it perstists I would reccomend formating and reinstalling your software , back up your importent files first
I have had 98 install buggy sometimes to the point where I could not access the windows update sight so maybe you got a bad install or the drive was not partitioned correctly
If your feeling brave pop open your case and check your drive cables and make sure they a snug on the drivea and that the master drives are at the end of the ribbon cable and that the jumpers are correct
Goo into cmos and make sure that it matches your drive type in the drive settings and the LBA is enabled for large drives ( We all have those now :>) )
Let me know if the vxd fix helps before you spend hours backing up
