No Sound when playing MPEG's

I have a Sony VAIO PCV220 that has no sound during MPG and AVI playback. All the other Windows 98 sounds are there. I have already reloaded all the Win98 multimedia components, but still no luck. Any suggestions....

Probably a bad sound card. Been there before
