How do I turn off Onboard Video?

Hi Everyone,

I recently installed a PCI Matrox Millenium MGA 4mb video card on my computer. It is a P233 Gateway 2000, 4G HD, Win98Se.

The installation went according to plan. The computer recognized the new device on startup, and Win98SE asked to install the new drivers from the Win98SE CD. Under Display Adapter, the Matrox device shows up. It seemed to install perfectly but some reason I do not receive any of the 3-D Graphics I am supposed to receive.

I updated the drivers from the website. One of the problems I think is happening is that the motherboard has 'Onboard Video' which cannot be turned off in BIOS.

The question I have is whether, assuming the drivers are installed properly, if the Onboard Video (built into the Motherboard) is preventing the Matrox video card from working? If so, how do I turn off the Onboard Video. The Motherboard number is SCI PCI 586. The BIOS number is OAAESO52.

So is the card not working at all or is it just not that good?? Well if it is the latter then what can you expect from a 4MB PCI video card, and a MATROX at that (not known for 3-D graphics), on a 4 year old machine?

Try flashing the BIOS..maybe a newer BIOS has that option (to turn off the onboard video)

Its not working at all, the card did work, and worked pretty well in another machine. How do you flash bios?

check out the gateway support site..during POST write down your system's BIOS code.

Problem Solved!!!

I disabled the other display adapter by going to control panel, clicking display adapter, and then clicking "disable in all profiles.

One more thing to check might be a mobo jumper for the onboard video.

Thanks, but I have since discovered something new. By positioning the computer icons on Display Properties>Settings, I am increasing the 3-Effects.

Unfortunately I don't think I have the courage, or the knowledge to mess with the jumper settings of he Mobo.
