I am making a Jukebox out of one of my spare machines. I came accross a great DOS based MP3 player.
I am just curious to where i could get a copy of DOS.
Any tips or hits would be great.

FreeDOS (http://www.freedos.org/) ahould do everything you will need, and it won't break any liscensing laws to do it.
Just out of curiosity, what are you going to use to play the files with (assuming you are playing them in dos)?

If you are looking for a copy of DOS, the best bet would be to check a flea market, or ebay. If you are looking for a link to download from, you are SOL. We don't do warez here.

Not warez, just trying to see if anyone knows the way to pull DOS out of WIN9x ect.
I read somewhere how to do it a while back but forgot.
I wil try FreeDOS and see how well that works.
The program I am using is DAMP (http://www.damp-mp3.co.uk/), decent DOS mp3 player i found on The Screensavers on TechTV (http://www.thescreensavers.com)

You are probably thinking of the [relying on memory here] \system\olddos on the Win95 CD. I has (more or less) MS-DOS 6.22 in it.
*probably _not_ the correct path there, but poke around a bit and you should find it.

There was some DOS discussion here:

including a link to a DOS info site.

Student^2 hit the nail right on the head: FreeDOS. It is an ongoing project with constant updates and to be quite honest I think it is alot better than MSDOS (probably because MSDOS hasn't been updated in years). It has really good memory managment.

Thanks alot,
I found several other very helpful links with tons of freeware/shareware for DOS...
Looks like it is going to be a lowend gaming PC too...
I will be building it today hopefully, and I will post how it all went.

Just create a boot floppy with FDISK, Format, and SYS on it to partition, format, and make bootable the "DOS to be" system. Then copy all the files from c:\windows\command for all the DOS support files.

Plus HIMEM.SYS and EMM386.EXE which are usually only in the Windows folder.
