I've been doing a lot of PC reloads here at work (I work in the IT department)
I was wondering how a person could just make a boot-disk with some sort of batch file that would either run FDISK and blow away the partition, or else run FORMAT unattended? Is there any switches to FORMAT, other than /s /u ?I know it sounds lazy, but it'd be easier to wipe the drives with bootdisks.

/q (for quick format)
It will never do it unattended. (At least I don't think.) It will always ask you "This will erase all data ...are you sure you want to do this Y/N?"
But to do it as unattended as POSSIBLE, put the following line in your autoexec.bat file:
FORMAT C: /v:*insert volume name here* /q /u /s
Depending on what all you have your autoexec doing, you may need to play around with the position of this line. (probably at the end though....)

Hey skywalker, I think I have exaclty what your looking for! I posted not too long ago on something close to this and got someone to email me some files. Gimme you email addy and Ill send them tommorrow, as the disk is at work. It will make a floppy that will remove all partions, repartition and format the drive, sys the drive in a matter of seconds. Its pretty sweet.
For all of the latecomers that donthave time to read all of the replies...you can download the files from Q's website http://members.home.net/rpm700/files/bootdisk.exe

I'd be interested in that too. I would also be interested in adding a feature to create \windows\options\cabs, and copy cabs from a CD to it.
Could you send it to me, also. TIA.

run FORMAT unattended... try it
FORMAT C: /U /S /AUTOTEST
THE AUTOTEST PARAMETER NOT DISPLAY ANY TEXT AND NOT NEED PRESS KEY OR RESPONSE THE CUESTION TO FORMAT OTHER DISK (IN HDD NOT DISPLAY THIS CUESTION).
the FDISK unattended... some compaq restore CD contain FDISK parameters to partition disk, but not remember this :(. Try ask to technical support Compaq for this (or Microsoft, but not is good idea).
The PARAMETER /AUTOTEST is not documentated...

Thanks Penguin! I haven't had a chance to test the files out yet. Boss is out for a week and a half for stomach surgery, and of course the first day he's gone everything goes straight down the tube. Busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest!
Later!

Sure, by all means.... Just dont give me the credit for it. I got it from a Windrivers member, sorry cant remember his user name. His real name is Randy, and he got it from some University Professor. But yes by all means, post it and STOP THE INSANITY...hehe
Thanks Q Oh by the way. With this disk, you must put it on a floppy and leave the write protection off, as it writes to the disk.
Thanks Q

I am unable to publish to my personal webspace from the office, but I'll post the link by 9:00pm CDT (GMT -6).
It will be published on my @Home Webspace, so there will be no popups! And it only takes about 30 seconds to upload on my cable :)

three pages is to much for people to read your gonna keep getting posts about sending people the email. Just edit the first post so you have the link there.

But they should read through all of the posts, not just the first 2! I have seen a post where the exact same solution was repeated 5 times on page 2 because they didn't bother to read the last 2 posts on page 1 and the first post on page 2. I closed that thread because of that.
If you look on page 2, there are people that didn't even read my first post on page 2 with the link! Posted right after me. That means that he didn't even read the 2nd page!

heh, i made one of these disk once..... fdisked the drive , rebooted , cleared the boot record formatted the drive all with out even pressing a key.... well it said auto-bootdisk on it. one of my co-workers was going to reload the server that he crashed while i was on vacation, .. when i returned more then just windows crashed, every bit of data was gone, i gould of retrived the dta my self but after he formateed he reloaded nt and the back up, by that time the important info was already over written, worse part is my 2.5 gigs of drivers i had on the machine =-(
by this time your wondering what the moral of the story is???
only create disk like this on a red disk and mark it data destroyer do not boot from this disk =-)

Dont know if you tried this one yet but...Luckily , you have to hit one key before it starts the program, but it can easly be removed. Good point though.

That page on computerhope was real useful to me, Thanks. By the way; I figured out how to autoformat by myself a long time ago. It seems I was trying to do format c: <ans.txt
where ans.txt contained <y enter enter>.
It didn't work. A little experimentation found it would if you did:
format c: /v:anyname <ans.txt.
forcing the volume label allowed it to accept the ans.txt file.

removing all partitions is pretty easy with Aefdisk (http://www.aefdisk.com)
aefdisk /delall /mbr will remove any partitions from the first physical disk (including linux, ntfs etc..) and retore the MBR to the DOS loader (usefull to remove lilo)
you can also create partitions on the spot using switches (read the read me..)
formatting is very simple <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
I can make such a boot disk in a few minutes - but I use ghost so I don't need it <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">
