I just completed the installation of NT 4.0 Server on my home computer in the same FAT16 Partition as Windows 98. I have installed Service Pack 6a, IE5, and Windows Messaging. I am able to access the Internet and retrieve my POP3 mail from my ISP. My problem is an error message that I receive as I am logging on that tells me a device or driver failed to start and to check the Event Viewer to see what the problem is. Below are the three items in Event Viewer that appear, each about 1 second apart. The event numbers are 7001, 7001, and 7023 respectively. The information under “Source” is Service Control Mar for all three events.
The Local Mail Delivery Agent service depends on the POP3 Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.
The POP3 Server service depends on the SMTP Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The system could not find the environment option that was entered.
The SMTP Server service terminated with the following error:
The system could not find the environment option that was entered.
If someone could point me in the right direction on solving this error message popping up it would be greatly appreciated. This computer is not networked to another computer nor does it have a NIC installed. I know very little about Server as we just started this module in the MCSE course that I am attending. I had to back up, delete partitions, reformat, hunt NT drivers, etc. and this error message SEEMS to be all I have left to resolve on the installation.
Thanks for the input!
