Hey there everybody.
I have a socket 7 motherboard I got a few weeks ago used. I have one 32M simm and a Intel P1-133 processor. Upon power up the screen does everything up to the memory count just fine then just stops. The floppy drive does nothing and it does not try to access the hdd either. I do not have a manual so I can't determine if jumpers are positioned properly.
Any suggesstions.

Thanks
Dave

Hi.
Did you place the FDD and the HDD cables the right way? Is pin1 okay?
Try pulling off the FDD and the HDD cables.
After the POST you should recieve a message saying: "NO SYSTEM DISK OR DISK ERROR".

Good luck

it might have something to do with that Socket 7 boards require SIMMs to be installed in matching pairs. THis is so that the system memory can get the 32bit access to the memory. Try installing a matching pair of SIMMs & see if this cures it. Also try disabling the Cache in the BIOS as this can also do the same if it is faulty

This from SuperMicro's site. I had a customer who brought back a system with this exact scenario. Sometimes the simplest things are overlooked.

Question: I can only see the video/graphics card BIOS banner display and nothing else.
Answer: You may have connected your PS/2 keyboard and PS/2 mouse to the wrong connectors. For Supermicro ATX motherboards, the lower connector on the PS/2 device connector is for a PS/2 keyboard and the upper connector is for a PS/2 mouse. You may temporarily disconnect both the PS/2 mouse and PS/2 keyboard to try to bring up the display. Clear CMOS and reload the BIOS "Optimal Default" settings if the above suggestion fails to bring up a display.

Good Luck,

Charlie

Darren is exactly right. If all you have is a single SIMM, I'm surprised that the machine even gives you a display at all. DIMMs can be installed in singles, but on every Pentium-class board that I know of SIMMs MUST be installed in pairs.
