Hey, a friend told me about a great spyware removal tool to get rid of those damn advertising agency's hiding files and programs on your cpu. It's called ad-aware, and you can get it here (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)

It'll remove cookies that send back info, and stealth programs that run without you knowing. Best of all, it's free and fully functional!

I love this program. People are often surprised at the amount of spyware running in their systems.

I'm usually pretty careful about running stuff on my machine, I don't download software that often.

Imagine my surprise when it found SEVEN spyware references! Yikes!

I use Ad-Aware on a regular basis and it always finds a cookie from doubleclick.net. Anyone know anything about this? What puts it back on my machine after I've deleted it?
Thanks.....d

Be aware that the opt out cookies will eventually expire - I read in a magazine that some opt out cookies expire in 30 days, whereas other cookies usually expire in a year.

Just remember, they come back all the time. It seems like those damn Doubleclick files are everywhere!! I run the program every two days, and still find them. I'm really curious how they pass through both my firewalls. Unless I mistakenly let one pass... Though it makes me kinda sad to hear that Doubleclick is having troubles making earnings now. Kinda brings a tear to my eye.... hehehehe

If you register and get AdAware+ you also get Ad-Watch which sits in your system tray and automatically zaps the spyware before it reaches your hardware....And, they email you and let you know when new versions/databases are available.

Great tool. But it ain't perfect. It found the spyware on my system but incorrectly identified some legitimate programs as spyware. Be careful when using it.

If you hate those doubleclick cookies. goto www.analogx.com (http://www.analogx.com) and get their cookie wall. Its a firewall for cookies. You can set it to stop accepting cookies from doubleclick. Also you might want to check out POW, its a pop-up killer. Both are free and really small.

I've been recommending this program to all and sundry for months now. It can dramatically improve your system and internet performance to get rid of all this crud running in the background...

What I want to see someone program next is AdScrew, which sends back demographic information to these bozos that is all wrong and messes up their databases to the point of unusability.

Be careful, because some of those legitimate programs have spyware in them. My friend was telling me that he had a matel game on a computer for his daughter, and it registered as spyware. After a bit of research, he discovered that not too long ago, Matel got into a lot of consumer trouble when it was discovered that they had setup spyware in their game. I can MAYBE understand some in a downloadable file, but NOT in something I purchased!!

That Double click cookie opt out says that it will not place a cookie on your pc "in the future", no specified time frame - I guess that means forever? Also, they have an email opt out and a catalog opt out as well.
