I was to share some things after working on a computer based on the ServerSet chip set.

1. this chipset's have very serius DMA problems. the bigest one concern the AGP slot. this connection that supposed to support DMA just dont do it. you can expect slow working in any 3D enviroments and NO OverLay so you cant work with any TV capture, Tuners, Video Editing cards and such. also normaly serius errors using IDE DMA channels.

2. Dont try to use the USB. you can try but it will just dont work. If you think that Via chipsets have problems here,.... you get the point.

finaly we replaced the mobo in a i840 one. It's more Expencive and need PC800 Ram and not PC133 like the serverset one used - but i can work !!!

I remember viewing a brief article about that chipset from .......Tomshardware page I think????? The results were not that impressive either. They really need to improve the chipset if they intend to compete.

The chipset is fine for web servers and such.
but if you need a WorkStation, go with somthing else.

BTW - you cant do a shut down via software,
this Start > shutdown thingi dont work, and is a hardware limitation. Like working with AT PSU Only Dual PIII mobo.
