Here are some tips I found that work great when you need to upgrade to windows 2000.
1) backup before you do anything (trust me, you dont want setup to fail then not have a backup and lose everything)

2) Uninstall all sound drivers (this will help out in the long run, since I have ound about 70% of my works computers sound go nuts in windows because of windows trying to install there default driver and the current driver from before is still there)

3) Uninstall any keybaord driver (those internet keybaords could crash and freeze windows in setup)

4) If you get a blank black screen on the third setup you will need to put your backup back, and Uninstall the vide drivers, and use the standard video drivers.

5) Uninstall anything that the upgrade setup says will not run under windows 2000.

6) Make sure your hardware is supported and has drivers (big one here)

If anyone else has a tip on installing windows 2000 post it here.

Prior to upgrading, do your homework.
If the computer to be upgraded is a system from a major company, their websites and technicians can help you to find out if your computer can be upgraded to Win2K.
If it is isn't, then find out the manufacturer and model number for every piece of hardware you have such as CD-ROM, Video Card, Sound Card.....
With That information, check the Win2K upgrade pages (http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/professional/howtobuy/upgrading/default.asp)and also check for hardware compatability.
Make certain to have drivers available on another media like floppy disks, CD-ROM or even a second hard drive for easy location and installation.
