Darren Wilson May 27th, 2001, 04:43 PM If you are worried about SpyWare, give this little FREE program called AdAware a try. http://www.lavasoft.de/aaw/index.html kingtbone May 28th, 2001, 08:55 AM Interesting. What is SpyWare? Darren Wilson May 28th, 2001, 09:22 AM Software that can track where you are surfing to to allow adverts or other information to be sent to you determined on your surfing habits. Wayward Clam May 28th, 2001, 09:47 AM Many popular programs including BearShare, some versions of RealPlayer, and others install it onto your machine stealthily. AdAware should identify it and remove it without interfering with the program. kingtbone May 28th, 2001, 10:16 AM Those bastards! I'll enjoy my privacy, thank you. GirlGeek May 28th, 2001, 10:29 AM Some of the shareware programs running spyware from Aureate (sp?) can't be removed unless you're in safe mode. Supposedly the spyware isn't activated untill you run the software it came in on but I've found that most of Aureate's tricky code starts with windows. I understand shareware/freeware and the need for ads to be placed in order to help pay for the programming but it isn't necessary to track everything we do. IMO. DeaJae May 28th, 2001, 07:08 PM notice many of this spyware crap is adverts, stuff like Gozilladon't work without adverts, unless any1 knows how to knock it into registered mode? Sowulo May 28th, 2001, 07:58 PM Originally posted by DeaJae: notice many of this spyware crap is adverts, stuff like Gozilladon't work without adverts, unless any1 knows how to knock it into registered mode? Yeah. Pay the registration fee!!! Darren Wilson May 29th, 2001, 01:33 AM Originally posted by Sowulo: Yeah. Pay the registration fee!!! hehehehehehe agreed there. Lycia May 29th, 2001, 06:28 PM Gamespy Arcade installs several spyware programs if you aren't carefull how you install. Comet Curse-er is a bad one...I had it installed and I still to this day know how it got installed...I got Ad-aware from a MaximumPC review... MacGyver May 29th, 2001, 06:32 PM I believe that RealPlayer installs CometCursor when you install it and doesn't give you the option during the install. I complained to Real about this, and while somebody actually responded with the uninstall instructions, they didn't do much else about it. As more and more sites thirst for revenue, this BS will be happening more and more. So better get used to it and use AdAware religously Originally posted by Lycia: Comet Curse-er is a bad one...I had it installed and I still to this day (don't) know how it got installed. eminem41269 May 29th, 2001, 07:30 PM i have adaware its great i suggest everyone to get it Cave_Dweller May 29th, 2001, 08:19 PM The first time I ran Ad Aware, I was shocked by the number of spyware references it found. Absolutely awesome app! JungleMan1 May 29th, 2001, 09:37 PM 21 SPYWARE REFERENCES!!! I'm sorry but I'll keep my system clean of that junk. Bye Bye Crap! However, of course, it is not perfect. Anyone with a little VB experience can make a web browsing app that will swipe MSN Passport logins and phone home with them. It's a scary world...know of any non-spyware alternatives to Go Zilla? I just reinstalled real player and have no comet curser installed...maybe your emails provoked a response.... Joker1 May 31st, 2001, 01:32 PM error 404: Datei nicht gefunden!
