you guys probably know this already i just found out and was amazed that it worked. so i figured i would share it with you.
i work help desk and alot of times people with dead pc or laptops that wont power on callin , so i have them from now on unplug any devices from it like external keyboards,mouse,printer,power cord etc. everything and have them hold down power for 45 secs. i was told that drains the computer and after that just plug in the power cord and so far i had alot of computers and laptops that came back ALIVE!!!

If you are having trouble with the battery (eg, not recharging fully, etc). There is usually an option to drain the battery, it takes a few hours but can clear the problem.

Hey geek where is that option I am running win98se and have not found it I have a compaq presario 1600s and think I may have that problem My bat life span is very short and I would like to totally discharge it to recharge. it is a lio so there is supposed to be no memory

Sorry, I meant to add the option was within the BIOS.

Your best bet is to go to a battery specialist. Here in Canada we have a place called Battery Direct. They check batteries for a fee of $10. The drained my IBM thinkbad battery told me it had 2% juice left and didn't even charge me. I know of other people who have had GREAT success with this as well.

For $10 they'll check your battery, tell ya how much juice is left, and discharge the thing for ya.

Well worth the ten bones...
