Easter Eggs

I'm sure you guys have heard of Easter Eggs. They're little tidbits of hidden screens and games that programmers put into their s/w when they get bored. There's a cool 3D one in Excel. For more info on s/w EEggs and others in TV shows and movies, check out:

the easter egg site rocks..... please post other eegs if anyone knows them.... i think that it is prety cool to view them.... i have one question though???? how do people find these things...??

I assume most come straight from the developpers themselves.

Some are so tricky to find (in software), that it would be mind-boggling to go out and actually "look" for these things.

If it's an egg in a movie or DVD, you just have to be alert.

Hey, I was just browsing through that site today <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">. I'm just amazed by how hard it is to find these eggs too! I guess there are people out there searching for them, but I still think some of them are so hard that I would have to think the developer told someone.

I reckon most come from the developer, but there's obviously a trend that means there's likely to be something hidden in Microsoft apps, so it's worth searching for.

I guess you could look through the code (exe or dlls) for a list of names and then try to work backwards from there, figuring out how to trigger it - most are done by a series of keystrokes/clicks so you may be able to see that in the code if you know what you're looking for.

I've got an Easter Egg up there, but it's very obscure.

A lot of computers, particularly Macs, will have stuff on the hardware. Many, many Mac cases have the developers signatures inside. Other manufacturors sometimes embed the developers names on the circuit boards.

We allow our designers to put a personal symbol or initials on any boards they work on. Some of them have Christmas trees with legs, skunks, foxes, a guy on a bicycle, a guy on a surfboard, lightning bolts, etc.

I think that's a pretty cool idea by your company. It gives the programmers and esigners a chance to escape from the land of obscurity and develop some pride in the products they design. Helps build morale and pride in ones accomplishment.

I can't get the Exell 'Spy Hunter' egg to work. My excel on NT and office 2000 will only go to column 'lv'

Can someone point me to get the WC column to show?
