Im posting this due to the reason its a tale on most of us .. ive been having problems posting in the forum (like alot of us) and decided a while back i know its not scott (driverguy)its the browsers, last week i had had it, crashes and waiting forever to load pages when im on a dedicated line so id open up the other broswer and wham page loads in a sec, with constant cleaning of cache and many other things to look at a webpage this is not how its suppose to be.
I begain looking at alt broswers as I had once done and wasnt happy with the results most didnt show the page or was missing this and that but that was a while ago. I opened up several of these new versions of alt broswers and discovered how much they had really changed.
The one that has shocked me was opera 4.02 how well it works and how stable its been for the last week. being a straight netscape user only I realized how stupid ive been and have now droped netscape from my computers the only drawback to opera is you have to purchase it which im told when end soon ... I ended up last night purchasing it and havent regretted a second of it. Now heres my view ive posted about 6 times in windrivers not a single error, pages all over the web work 1000% and best of all it hasnt even touched my resources so i could have 50 of them open and nothing. so may i make a suggestion please check out these alt browsers (although avoid neoplanet due to its sharing of info about your habits) I highly recommend opera 4.02
P.S. there is a free 30 day trial of it.

No probs with IE5.0 thru 5.5 but you couldn't pay me to waste my time on Netscape!

Actually Neoplanet isn't a seperate browser; it's more of an add-on to IE that allows you add skins to the browser. Well.. to be fair, that's all it was when I last tried it a few months back; it's possible that they've written an actual browser by now, but I just doubt it.

I shouldn't really do this but if you like Opera 4.02 that much then 'register it' by clicking HERE (http://www.cracks.am/cgi-bin/dl.cgi?lt=o&ID=107) then press the 'download button'. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif
Like I say, I didn't post this and I don't condone it, but as all the other browsers are free, then I think this one should be as well so more people use it.

Thanks anyways ..

Well, word on the street is that the next version of Opera will be free anyway. I expect they'll use some sort of imbedded advertizing to cover the cost of those who don't register...

I agree JVAGUY. Thought it might be useful to some of the users here who haven't tried Opera yet and hate the prospect of uninstalling it after it expires as lately it seems a lot of end users are starting to use the forums.

I just downloaded and installed Opera, and **registered** it to give it a try.
I haven't used Opera since one of the first versions, but this is fairly impressive, although I keep getting some odd errors and crashes, I don't know if it's an issue with 2000 or what.

Just installed it here too. Running fine with 98se. Looks pretty good so far.

I'm still waiting for an OS/2 version, which has been in development for a few years now... Opera has always been impressive to me. The fact that it's a browser written from the ground up and not dependent on Mosaic code makes it a much cleaner and much SMALLER yet fully functional browser. I've also played around with Mosaic and the DOS based Lynx (hey, if you wanna waste a weekend...). But I have to say that ANY browser beats IBM's browser for OS/2...WebExplorer SUCKS!
Just thought I'd share that (-;

I just checked, and yes, version 5 is free, but it's supported by advertising! YECH! The ads are not in the purchased software version. I'd rather put up with GPF's than stare at a pile of useless ads. Why look at ads when you don't have to??? No offense Darren, thanks for posting the fact it is now free. But that's my personal opinion.

If you've registered Opera 4.0x previously (see Darren's registration link) - then the ads go away.

Another alternative broswer you might want to check out is K-Meleon. http://kmeleon.org/
lt uses the mozilla rendering engine, which can handle both Netscape's (way superior) dHTML, and MSIE's (much nicer) ms-only CSS features. Plus, its open-source, so no fee or really immoral "software theft" is required.

If you're running some kind of firewall program, that could do it. I ran into the same "solution" with Eudora 5.

kinda ironic but during the download of opera 5.01 from the web site my IE5.5 crashed and locked the system... when i got back in i tried it again. it gives an error and locks up again... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif Microsoft at it again. Maybe that's what's in those security patches http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/biggrin.gif

l had the same problem when downloading Mozilla (Netscape 5) a while back, and on a website of another browser l saw actually said "MSIE may corrupt the file when downloading, so please use another browser to get the file". Weird.(don't worry, l won't go druding up conspiracy theories about Bill's secret police and world dominance...l just found it strange)
