It just amazes me when I try to go to a hardware vendors website for drivers, and there site is down. I have a ladie's computer in front of me that was brought in for a format and reload of 98. After the install, there was 3 devices needing drivers:

3COM Modem - Downloaded them fine.

Aureal Sound Card - Aureal's page loads, support server is down.

SiS Video Card - SiS's website works, drivers are on a European server, which is down.

These people manufacture hardware, yet they can't even keep there own servers online? That's scary!!!

Anybody who deals with Ingram Micro I'm sure has heard this line quite often: "I'm sorry sir, the computers are down right now."

The biggest computer distributor in the whole world, and there network crashes at least once a week...that instills confidence in me!!!

Yes, you're right 3fingersalute.

It makes me mad too!

Why should the customer replace a device that works fine because of the missing drivers?

The thing I can't figure out is, are they always down? or are they just down when *I* need those drivers http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/wink.gif

Aureal's out of business. Come to think of it, maybe windrivers could serve a copy of the aureal drivers like they have with other out of business products...

ASUS has a hard time keeping their servers up also. There's been many times I go to their server to download a BIOS, or video drivers, and the US site is down. So, pop over to the Taiwan site. Oh, that's down too. Let's check the German site. Oh, that's down too.
Finally, I get through, and get to the download page.
The main FTP server is down. Taiwan's FTP server is down. France's FTP server is down.

I hear ya! It seems to me that the motherboard manufacturers sites are the worst! I tried to get some files this morning for a DFI board I am toying with, no dice. Amptron, FIC, MicroStar....all sad excuses for support. The only exception I can think of is Aopen. Never had a problem there.

Oh, and Creative purchased Aureal. They have no intention of supporting the hardware, according to the Dec MaxPC.

A lot of places are like that. l hve a CMPci8879 sound card, and the 200kb drivers took me damn near an hour to download (300b/second?? What is this, Wargames??)

The funniest has to be when Microsoft's IIS site is down, or when l got "database retrieve errors" while trying to download MySQL. ls that what we pay you people for?? http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/biggrin.gif

ftpsearch.lycos.com is a wonderful tool for those moments of download frustration. You'd be surprised how many mirrors there are of even the most obscure files...

Took me an 1 1/2 to download video drivers from the PC chips site.. then I found out that the drivers were labeled wrong on the site.. the driver was about 260k.... HMM.. Oh, did I mention I was on a T1??????? Asus's site has been slow since they've been a company.

Windrivers does serve a lot of local copies of drivers for companies that are out of buisness. I get a lot from them. They're probably working on getting the Aureal stuff.

Oh, and I've NEVER had a problem getting things from Microstar's site....They are, IMHO, the best manufacturer out there.

worst site for downloads?? has to be PC-Chips, slow and very poor (bit like their produce really??)

Best sites for downloads - QDI for definate, 100% success ratio here and fast, also Creative Labs (except when a new release of Liveware is out http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/frown.gif) and ATI.

As I've mentioned before,
