I used to like who I worked for. I was laid off work 12-4-00. My last day is 12-12-00. No notice, no compensation, NOTHING.. Just a goodbye.. My boss was able to keep me on until 12-12-00 though, even though I was laid off on 12-4-00. Wanna know who was the nice people to do this... Bank Of America!!!

If you've been there for more than 6 months full time, then they have to provide you with a reason for laying you off. If not, workers compensation board may want to hear about it.
BTW, seeing how you worked for BOA, not being able to afford your salary is not a valid reason for laying you off.

I was with a IT Staffing Company. The bank does not feel as though they owe a reason for laying me off other than they no longer need my services. I worked for a division called CFT (Consumer Finance Technology), it is being absorbed by TSG (Technology Services Group). TSG does not want to keep CFT's technicians. They want to keep who they have and hire their own techs. CFT & TSG have always been fighting for the past 3 years. They pretty much do the same thing. I was with CFT for 19 months. The bank does not recognize outside technicians for their loyalty to the bank and all the achievments they may have made.. I have letter's of recommendations form some of the top people in Jacksonville.... doesn't account for squat to them though. I have been eagerly looking for a job for the past week, nothing available until after december... I am runing low on funds.. I even havea newborn baby,,, 6 weeks old.... they don't care..

Magick..I feel your pain. I've worked for Bank of America and while it may not feel like it now, it may just be a blessing in disguise. The ONLY thing they care about is the bottom dollar and they care absolutely nothing about the individuals that worked their tail off to allow them to earn the money in the first place.I'm really sorry you're going through this and I hope you find something quick...we're all pulling for you...cuz we've all been there at one time or another.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma, Belive me I have been there, with 3 small daughters & no wife to help out, But looking back on it now it was a blessing in disguise. Just hang in there, something always comes up. Good Luck.

Can you do any PC work on the side? Print up some business cards or flyers and put them in the local supermarkets or barber shops Etc..

That's how I made it through... Side business. When I got laid off, 1.5yrs ago, I had several customers call me to track me down, Kindof shows you how much of a good job my former employers techs were doing. But it will be a blessing. Put in with some temps, adverstise on the local campuses for work, esp beginning of january, when all the students get back... New computers that need hooked up... 40/hr + travel. Hell, I've even done pizza delivery in slumps. Not the most exciting job in the world, but for 4hrs work I'd make 10-20/hr. + gas. We're pulling for you... good luck

I even have a business license for Mobile Computer Technician. I need to try and boost that a bit..I even havea credit card machine, and it is active and able to take Visa, MC, Amex, and Discover.. I usually just used it for selling things on Ebay....Hmmm , ya got me thinking now..

Magick:
Just in case, here are some good job sites:
http://www.hotjobs.com/ http://www.dice.com/ http://www.techjobbank.com/ http://www.monster.com/ http://www.computerjobs.com/job_drilldown.html
That should get ya started. Then again, if you are young enough, go for the self employ gig. It's tough, but you have your freedom.
