I'm finishing up all the rush jobs that the manager said she'd promised would be done by the weekend. Ugh!

We had three computers on the bench. We have one phone line to test them. After borrowing the phone line from my partner I hooked it into a computer I was working on and tried to go online to register her antivirus software. I had no dial-tone.

Blah blah blah... lots and lots of tech stuff, testing, cussing, etc. The stupid modem must be bad. Screw registration! It's Friday and it's after 4:00. I want to go home!

I go take the other computer I was working on off the bench and it had the phone line in it. I plugged the line into the wrong computer!

The whole day has been like that. Ugh!

A co-worker of mine just had a day like that yesterday. He was swapping out a motherboard and could not figure out why the new one would not boot up. push the power button and nothing would happen, no beeps, no fans, nothing. Finally he asked me to look at it, I hooke the power supply up to the board and it works great. The simple things you overlook when your in a hurry.

Oh yeah! A few weeks ago I was setting up some new computers, two of which had scsi adapters for some high speed ($10,000 +/-)scanners. All goes well except the second scanner can't be found by Windoze. The first is up and running, but the 2nd (identical) just won't work. I tried reloading the drivers, reseating the card, etc., etc. Finally after letting this thing kick my sorry butt for over an hour (I am ready to condemn the scanner as bad) a co-worker comes to help me out. Five minutes later he figures out that the pins on the cable are bent. Duhhh!!! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm44.gif

the silliest thing to happen yet is this:
we have one phone line dedicated to testing i-net connections. we have about 5 jacks thruout the tech area on this very same line.
what has commonly happened is one tech in the front with an actual customer trying to figure out why the internet is not connecting... one tech in the back CONNECTED to the internet. 20 minutes and 3 modems later, the tech in front still cannot get the internet working. *hooks up phone to phone jack* ... *modem squeelz* ... *yelling: are you on the internet back there?*

the other odd thing that has happened a couple times is connecting two computers together via phone cord (25' phone cord) and wondering why neither will get a dialtone
