Customer goes in to one of our other branches ranting & raving that his motherboard has died.
Fair enough we'll have a look.
Yes the board was dead, no display at all.
Tried all the components in another board with full display.
Customer then tells us that he took the unit to another shop to have a cd-rom drive fitted and the system came back to him like this.
" why didn't you go back to the other shop and complain?? "
" well the board came from you and is still under warranty so YOU WILL REPLACE IT!!!!!!! "
so the staff member phoned me up. I told him to send the system to me for detailed inspection.
Customer started then saying that if any data was lost from his hdd that he would sue for lost earnings. Stupid git hadn't backed up first!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got the system the next day & found that his primary drive was reporting full yet there were no files on it??????!!!! Strange I thought. Better get the old Norton Antivirus rescue set out.
Run the test on his hard disks & lo & behold guess what crops up?????
130 Files infected with W95.CIH!!!!!!!
Phoned customer back. " when did the system stop working ?? " " 26 April " " do you have Anti Virus Software??? " " Whats That ???? ", he replies!!!!!!!
So I started to explain the situation. He went ballistic stating that he had never heard of this virus, had not used anything other than original cd's and certainly had not moved files from other machines onto his system. Upon further inspection of his drives, I found that he had 8Gb of PIRATED Software sitting there. So I phoned him back.
" If you have only used original cd's then how come there is 8Gb of pirated games on the system along with a Pirate version of Office 97 Pro??? "
" I bought that CD from Milan, and it has a genuine Microsoft Label on it. The bloke said it was cheap because the license had got lost & he only had a photocopy"
He bought the cd in , and the label on the disk was a poor imitation, printed on a laser printer.
To cut a REAL long story short, he had bought his system in for a warranty job, and walked out with a bill for a new board, labour, reinstallation of O/S, virus removal, original software, etc. He didn't like the price of nearly £ 900 !!!!!!!!
I love my customers who think that they are always right!!!!!!!!!!! http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif
He forgot to buy some anti virus software, so I'll see him next month when he reinstalls his ' CD ' again http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif
