Okay, I couldn't beleive this when it happened. We have a customer who's rather cheap, doen't want to spend a dime but wants everything. Had an old P75 with like 16meg. He decides he wants an overdrive, and i tell him i won't do it cause i know i'm going to waste time on it, and they won't pay the labor - and it won't be fast enough for him when i'm done. so i tell him to buy additional memory. Maybe 2 32meg SIMMS. He does, but decides he'll install them himself. You know, it would have taken me about 2 mintues to install them but I have to charge at least .5 hours worth of labor, so his bill would have been 25 bucks for the labor. So he takes his new memory home, i tell them where the slots are and it's very simple. He decides he wants his dad to install them, he an electriction - surely he can do it??? Well, the next day I get a call, he has NO VIDEO, NOTHING. I dick around with it on the phone for awhile and I ended up telling him just to drop it in and let us take a look at it. Well, it arrives and what they had done amazed me!!! They had tried to install the chips by going straight down into the slot, but they noticed the lock tabs were in they way. So I suppose the pops went and got his trusty tool kit outta the truck and grabbed a pair of cutters. They had snipped the tabs off the slots!!! So now they could got staright down, with nothing in the way. They proceed with the operation and ended up busting like 15 pins on 2 of the memory slots in bank 1. Let's see, no video, no memory making connection - what's the problem, did you sell me bad memory??? So I told them what they had done wrong and the motherboard needed replaced (which it being a P75 they needed a new CPU, and a PII powersupply and a case to fit the board). But you could just as well buy and new system that comes with a 3 year warrenty!!! nope, they wanted to SAVE MONEY, so they got a new motherboard - 333 Celeron - case - and powersupply. They even salvaged there old floppy drive!!! So I built there system for them, got it all nice and ready to go - out the door it went. And not 3 days later they're in bitching about there bill, saying they could have bought a brand new computer for as much as this has cost! BINGO, I tried to freakin' tell you THAT!!! Amazing, just amazing... I could of done it for 25 bucks!

I just love those morons who want to install a 486 based processor in their machine, and install the blasted thing in backward!

CU (harsh language filtered):You ******** sole me a god**** f***** up chip!
Me: Ok. Let me see the machine.
I set the pc down and take off the cover. The smell of fried chips asails my senses. I couldn't believe this! where his 486 133 had been was nothing more than a small crater. the chip had literally exploded and had cracked the motherboard. I assesed the damage and pulled out what was left of the CPU from the socket.
Me: Um sir. Did you install this chip with the dot facing the little handle?
Cu: Umm no. I thought you just put it in and it will work automatically!
me: oh crud. Well this is what's left of the CPU.
I handed him the chip and he bought one of out P2 machines. At least the P2's have keyed sockets!
