Do you still have access Freddy? It might be just they have too many users... BigBlueSky was definitely a take the money and run outfit - but it wasn't much money, and I got my monies worth :D , Redhotant was the one I was very dissapointed with, I bought a £90 1 year subscription for my son while at university, lasted 3 months

no , it died last week ,,,outgoing email died a couple of days later , and now incomming has died ,,(last 48hrs) i like the way they say
"1 July 2002 - Important Notice
Following a dispute with our carriers, NTL, which we cannot go into detail for legal reasons, we would like to assure our users that WE have not disconnected them - this was a result of NTL disabling the access numbers.
WE CAN ASSURE ALL OUR MEMBERS THAT WE ARE ATTEMPTING TO FIND ALTERNATIVE CARRIERS TO ENABLE THEM TO ACCESS THE INTERNET
and if u look , this has been going on since 24th ,
yes i agree "they" have not disconnected the user ,,so in legal terms they have not broken the contract ,,,,BUT either they have not paid there bills OR there contract has finished with NTL ,in which case they have taken monies ,,knowing they cannot/unable to fulfill there contract for the full 12 mth period.
as an individual it is not cost iffective to pursue this ,,,,£120.00 going going GONE ,,,,glug glug.
bit of a bummer realy ,,,,anyway ,,,anyone who knows me ,,check my new (well about 4yr old) email address in my profile ,,,

Time to get broadband Freddy!!
Or go (gulp ) AOL - since they will allow you to dial in from a landline you dont have to designate...
It is the single most useful thing about AOL, it is the ONLY reason I would use it.

Just a quick note:
AOL have recently announced ADSL support at £34.99 inclusive of unannounced premium content.

i know ADSL is the way it go ....."due to MAJOR computer bills i can,t afford" cough cough ....
at the moment i,m using freeserve 24/7 from home ,,,it,s ok !! ,,,freeserve pay as u go ,,on jobs ,,,the customer HAS to pay the bill ,,setup with my user name then create new acc + delete mine.
ADSL is a consideration BUT my area it,s BT only ,,no cable and with another l/line its sort of pricy ,,,compered to £12.99 a month ,,,
all my mates know to ring l/line and if BT ansa 1571 kicks in i,m online ,,,and then they bell me on my mobile ,,,,(got same No. landline and mobile ,,,just 07074 instead of 01772 ,,,so is ok , the two hour cuttoff has,nt hurt me ,,,and the best prog i obtained was regetdx ,,,saved my life on 100m+ d/loads,,

I will have to stay as i am for a while ,,,

Just looked at the freeserve site to check the price,it seems they are doing an ADSL offer at the momment:
"Just £29.99 per month and we're offering free connection to broadband worth £65! To get started you'll need a broadband modem which costs £84.99."
Get your modem from www.dabs.com in thier value range for £45.82 PCI or £52.87 USB and away you go.You might have to work a little harder or charge your customers a bit more for a month or two.
Oh and see the chemist about the cough

rung freeserve ,,,£85 connection (inc modem) and 29.99 per mth.
freeserve connection only (no modem) £60.00 and £29.99 mth
BT hav,nt rung but seen £85 connection (inc modem) and £29.99 mth
so it dos,nt seen that if u provide your own modem with f/serve u will save much ,,,,they are nocking off £25 for a modem
still thinkin ,,,,and the guy from aol (who did,nt know what a modem was) ,,,,says AOL uses internet explorer ,,,and "what is netscape navigator ?"

There is only one problem with going DSL with any other provider in the UK other than BT... BT own the damn exchanges and lines.
While there are slightly cheaper deals, or better content or stuff, at the end of the day, if the line goes down and you are a bt adsl subscriber, you do not get the runaround that the other companies are forced to put the customer through, because they cannot fix the problem until BT get around to it.
Dialup is fine and cheap for many users. I only had problems when I needed to download Office 2000 sp1/sp2 - had to get a friend to grab it, rar it up and put it on an ftp server so I could download it in 5mb chunks... 200 mb dowlonad on dialup is no joke!

"freeserve connection only (no modem) £60.00 and £29.99 mth"
Hmm...interesting...Thats not the way it reads on their website,it reads as a free connection with a monthly charge.Perhaps they forgot to tell the tele operators.
"200 mb dowlonad on dialup is no joke!"
Would be cheaper to get them to post it in the long run.I was going to say faster but changed my mind given the state of the Post Office or whatever name they are going by these days.

yup rung them this afternoon ,,,as we were speaking (so to speak),,,ironicly if u follow there webpage thru ,,to sign up one of the Nos 08708 7200099 is a bummer ,,,,it,s a mistery shopper report No ,,????
i,m looking at there page now on a different browser :
What does it cost?
Just £29.99 per month and we're offering free connection to broadband worth £65! To get started you'll need a broadband modem which costs £84.99.
see http://www.freeserve.com/time/broadbandaccess/?linkfr om=broadband&link=main2_morelink1&article=FreeserveBroadband08042002
so there u go ,,,,,,EVERYBODY is offering free connection ,aol,BT , freeserve etc ,,,,,bit like mobile phones init,,,,next page ,,,i give my user name+p/word for "anytime ,,,,,and check my credit rating (yuk!) ,,,and ,,,after a 5 min wait!!!! ,,,no 10 mins ,,the freeserve modem line crashes !!!!OK i give in ,,,u ring um up and they say "yes sir install yourself ,,,modem + filters £85.00 ,,,+ £29.99 per mth ,,,, yes sir "you will provide your own modem" then we do a special "reconnection deal" £60.00 ,,sorry no free connection ,,,you,ve got your own gear" ,,,+ £29.99 per mth,
so you can "buy" a modem from them (or is it rent?) for £85.00 ,,it,s an ALCATEL ,or summot and pay £29.99 per month or provide your own @£60.00 + £29.99 ,,,,
hardly worth going to dabs and paying £45 is it
and incidentaly there sign up page still has not regestered !!!!!
hardly a good advertizing ploy ,,when on dialup modem power u can,t get thru to sign up for broadband !!!!!
cough cough ,,,,,this gear is costing me an arm and a leg.
as a side not the royal mail has started there move to save money ,,,as of sept 2002 the "central" p.o in preston (bonny building 150yrs + ) will close and a "new " office will appear in a shoppin "mall" out of town ,,,no buses ,,run in partnership with a company called "keybase ltd" Quote: modern facilities with cafe and bar ,,,,,$ull**** ,,,,,but thats another story
remember "i would give my right arm to be ambydexterous ,,,"
freddy the fisherman ,,,,,but i,ve lost my boat
