This is the best info I have seen to date on Win98 and it's now famous shutdown problems. I found it on Jaton's web site of all places. http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

Microsoft has released yet another patch for this issue. However, this one actually seems to work. If you search the Knowledgebase for article Q260067, you will find this update. It addresses the issue of networked computers with mapped drives: it seems that when Win98 SE disconnects from the network, it does not relinquish the drive mappings. So when it's going through its shutdown checks and querys the drives for open files, it gets no response from the mapped drives and waits...and waits...and waits...you get the idea. This patch fixes that. I've been using this patch for about a month now (it was released in May) and I tell you, it has worked every time.
