[RESOLVED] Trying to Overclock A bx board

I bought an HP 8290 about 3 years ago. Now im trying to overclock the motherboard, Its a 440bx motherboard. I can underclock it with no problem but cant crank it up over 400mhz. Im using a p2 400mhz.

Okay checked out the Mboard on HP website = 440BX Chipset Model 8290.

Chipset appears to only do 100 mHz FSB max (which it will already be using at 4x for the PII). Can't remember if the PII's ratio is locked like the PIII. If its not, the only way forward is to set the ratio to 4.5x, otherwise your stuck. By the sounds of it you tried that and the system didn't like it.

The only other suggestion would be to replace the mboard, I use an A-bit BE6-II which allows the FSB to be 'wound up', handy if the ratio is locked on the chip.

Multiplier is locked on PII CPU's.

If you can find out what board it is then we may be able to advise more.
