What is the best way to do a broadcast message using a notepad popup without having any software on the client computer? Are there any programs or does a vb script have to be written? Thanks for any help..

I'm sorry. In too much of a hurry.

NT 4.0 sp6 Server, various win95 and 98 workstations. 3 buildings on a frag T1 connection all under one domain and workgroup.

u can use winpopup which is included with thew OS, but it has to be running on the client machine.

U would almost always need something running on the client, waiting to receive a new message. I can't really think of any other way to do it, vbscript or not. What is the purpose of this? just for gamers to communicate to one another?

if so, why not try setting up an audio solution, where each workstation has a headset. If you are any good at programming, that would not be to hard to do. Microsoft sells a product just for this purpose as well.

Win 9x comes with winpopup in the windows folder. I can only receive messages if the program is open. A way round this is to put a shortcut in the startup to run minimised. The only problem with that is the user can close it.

NT you can use cmd prompt and do a "net send"

Got to rush now its time to go home

The purpose is to do a broadcast message about web surfing, becuase I have recently caught a few users surfing porn sites. I was wanting to do a network wide "popup" that warns them about that issue.

I was trying to find a way that will get their attention, but I guess I'll just do the email thing.

Thanks guys

do this...
when you catch them surfing porn (good logging will work),

net send (computername here) we know & see all, questions? contact HR (extension here)

or net send (computername here) stop looking at porn and get back to work.

or net send (computername here) nice site... your supervisor is being contacted.

notify HR of what you are trying to do, and i am sure they will be more than willing to assist.

Net send computername "Virus detected, leave this page up and contact system administrator to prevent spreading of virus"

It will embarass the hell out of them if they have a gay porn site up or something heh heh
