Having a problem with the Biostar M6TLC board (LX Chipset) and a MS Intellimouse. The problem is, in Win9x, when you try to restart the computer, it will follow post with a couple more quick beeps. Then, it cuts off the PS/2 support and takes forever to boot, and when it does, gives you no functionality whatsoever. This also happens if the computer locks up and you have to shut it off. The only way it works is when you choose SHUTDOWN, and leave it off for about 30 seconds. I've pinpointed it to the mouse, because when I hook up a Logitech Mouseman +, it works just fine.

Although the problem was happening in Win95 too, I got the Win98 Update which is supposed to take care of the shutdown/restart problems. No luck there. I updated the BIOS to the latest revision, and have reseated and re-connected everything on the damn motherboard. Like I said though, it only seems to do it with this mouse. I have upgraded the drivers for EVERYTHING including the mouse, and still no luck. This is the second MS Intellipoint mouse I've tried on this. The customer requests that it be the intellipoint mouse, otherwise I would have just given them the Logitech mouse.

Please give me any ideas you might have!

Thanks,
PanFried

Okay, I wondered if it was just this one, so I dug up one of those boards, and I hooked up an intellipoint mouse to it, and viola! It does the same thing! Has anyone else had a similar problem with a different board? I'm still at a loss for words with this one.

must be a problem between the 2 components as I have sold numerous ( too many to even think of ) Intelli-Mice and have never had one come back or any problems reported to me.

Try a non Intellimouse on the board ( Standard PS/2 MS Mouse ) and see if the same thing happens.

Why not try to boot only from DOS with Intelli-mice driver loaded. Open a DOS Mouse supported application and see how it works.

On this you can isolate the problem whether if there is a hardware conflict or software.

Hope this will give you some answers...

I'd look at the P/S. Had one Enlite doing the same thing, starts were erratic and crazy, put in new P/S, all is well. Kind of points to it with the two different boards and similar results. My luck w/ Intellimouse is also very reliable, very good.
