Motherboard ID?

I’m wondering if anyone can help me identify my motherboard and bios. My computer is an Acer Aspire, P/N: 91.AB703.mm1
S/N: 90603095AQ
DS: AB638.F17
It has an AMD K6-2 333 processor, 32 meg SDRAM, and Windows 98. The video is on-board ATI Turbo Pro3D AGP with 8 meg, and a 40x Acer cd. The sound is also on-board.
I tried to install a Memorex CRW-1622 in it and it doesnt detect the burner. I presume the bios is set up for auto-detect, but I’m not sure...I can’t manually change anything in setup, except the time and date and floppy drive, boot sequence, etc. Maybe I’m not getting into setup right. I pressed CRTL+ALT+ESC.
The 40x lights up on bootup, but not the Memorex. I have tried changing the jumper to make the burner as master and the 40x as slave, then the 40x still lights up, but Device Manager says no cd at all. I tried putting the burner as slave to the hard drive, and then it wont boot at all.
I downloaded and ran ctbios from Windrivers.com and it says ACER-BIOS 06.01.99. Bios date/version : 990106-R01-E0. The Baord ID is :ACR95000-M-15.
I dont know if my problem is in the bios or what. I tried the Memorex on another system and it works fine.
Acer’s tech people said to get ahold of Memorex tech people...yeah right.
Has anyone had a similar experience with the Acer?

Thank you.

Are you loading a DOS driver from config.sys and autoexec.bat? If you are, does the DOS driver detect the Memorex?

Steve

BTW, I have had some bad experiences with Memorex products. If another drive is available try using it instead of the Memorex and see what happens.

I don't think there are drivers loading from config.sys and autoexec.bat, however I have a boot disk that boots with cdrom drivers and when I run that it does load dos drivers, and it says there is only 1 cd. I'm thinkin the bios dont detect the burner.

I had HELL recently with a HP burner and a
similar recognition problem. The HP tech
told me to REMOVE ALL REAL-MODE drivers for
BOTH the CD and burner in config.sys and
autoexec.bat and, after following his instructions, it worked!!

If you don't see a CD category in Device Manager, you won't be able to recognize
the Memorex. ALSO: the ASPI drivers on
the enclosed Adaptec software are necessary for proper burner operation.

Mine is the slave on the second IDE channel.

To Stevet..
I got hold of a buddy’s 36x cd rom and put it in my system and it took right off. We also put my Memorex in his system and it took off in his system. What now?
Thank you.

Have you tried disconnecting your 40x and installing the Memorex as the secondary master all by itself? Sounds like the Memorex just doesn't get along with the other drives in your system.

Also, you said that you slaved it to your hard drive and the system wouldn't boot. Some hard drives (Western Digital in particular) have a different jumper setting for master with slave than for master without slave.

To Stevet...
You were right about not getting along with
my other drives. I put in an Acer burner and it took right off.
Thank you and everyone for the help...I appreciate it.

I believe that your CRW-1622 is made by Yahmaha. Why don't you try downloading their drivers, and trying the the CD with company again.

As to the ID on your mainboard, try going to motherboards.org
The site has step-by-step help for identfying mobos/bios.
