I installed an ESS modem 2838 on a WindowsME system. Problem is it does not work. Upong boot, it recognized it (Pnp) and let me install it, but when I try to use it it tells me to either turn it on or if it is internal (it is) to configure the port settings. It is using Com2, but if I change it to Com1 (the only other choice) it does the same. The ESS Modem Manager is using IRQ10.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Rafi

Try removing the driver entirely. Reboot and disable all the serial ports on the motherboard in the bios. Boot up and install the drivers when it finds the modem. Then try and see if the modem works. If it works then enable the serial ports (if needed) to whatever resources are free.

I once thought I was wrong but I was mistaken.
