Does any body have some input on these coolers? I am considering one for an AMD K6-2 400. The theory sounds great and the reviews seem in favor. However the price tag for a good one, (The best review I've seen is about ComputerNerds PA6EXB) is about $ 65.00.

I do alot of 3D gaming on my home machine and also run a Diamond Monster II 12 MB. I have seen some cooling devices for these also, but was not as impressed. Any input on cooling these chips would be appreciated.

The thing that I've heard that is bad about the peltier coolers is that if the cooler itself produces heat since it's an active device rather than a passive cooler like most socket 7 fan/coolers are and if the fan stops working then there would be more heat than is normally present. I bought one of Computer Nerd's FA6EXB double ball-bearing fan because I've heard so much about them plus they cost less ($ 15.95) and they have a five year warranty. There is a very good article on www.heatsink-guide.com on this cooler. Hope this helps.

Here are my findings so far.

Using
Tyan Trinity AT 100 MHz motherboard
AMD K6-2 400 MHz CPU
128 MB SDRAM

With ComputerNerds' peltier cooler

AVG 90 degrees F.

With PC Cooler's 6000 RPM fan

AVG 120 degrees F.

I was playing Unreal before I put the peltier on and I would crash intermittently (rare) and always on a certain level (DemonLords Lair).

After the cooler went on, not a crash! Food for thought. Thinking about adding heatsinks to the VooDoo II accelerator also. It is a Monster II, has (3) 3Dfx chips on it and 12 MB.
