Win TV from hauppaugue sp? rocks!

i installed a few for some college kids, great space saver for dorms, no tv just comp and monitor. threw in a dvd player, now they have a better entertainment sys than me!
get the one with the remote and fm reciever... in nyc we don't get good enough reception for the fm, but the remote is worth it. it really impressed me! no dropped frames or nothin! i've heard bad things about the usb ver. so stay internal. only one possible drawback, the sound card connection cable is external. you go from the card to the line in on the sound card. doesn't affect the audio, and it comes with a little loop patch cable, but one of the kids lost his and had to spend a whole 3 bucks on a new 4 foot one.

I tried the Hauppague capture card and the capture was not up to my satisfaction. jumpy/skipped frames, etc. in other words, CHEAP!

I tried the ATI all-in-wonder, and it was a wonder it worked at all- same crap capture, and caused my particular config to lock up consistently. However, one of my guys has the 32 MB version and it works well w/ Premiere on his config

(I assume you wil be using premiere ? cuz everything else except AVID is just CRAPolA!)

Im using the pinnacle dc10 plus rt. now, (which was in my price range at the time of purchase) but want the dc30 for better compatability w/premiere.

If you got the dough and want to avoid the stress of setting a gaming box up for video editing, matrox and pinnacle make GOOD high-end stuff ($1000 and up range usually bundled w/ premiere) that kicks all kinds of ***. Check out their sites.

If you got firewire on yer camera, definately use the 1394 capture cards.

Also, going from a 5400 to a 7200 rpm HDD Worked wonders for my capture rates. RAID is going in my next video box 4 sure!

I-8... what are you doing? editing? output to vhs? creating mpegs/avis?

I use an 32mb AiW 128Pro card. Works great for any vid capture I need. I can do anythign except firewire, but I already have a 1394 card. The AiW sw is freindly and also compatible with most popular encoders http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/wink.gif

Don't buy anything from Pinnacle Systems. The don't even post drivers on their website for most of their cards!

Ne1 use the Radeon? I'm going to do surveillance with motion sensitive capture software but if i'm buying a card i might as well get a good card.. The radeon's supposed to do 720 x something @ 30FPS w/mpg 1 or 2.. i gotta look into it more but thanks for the great advice!

if you want a serious capture card go with a Miro dc30pro from Pinnacle Systems. if you have the money and want to do really high quality video go with a DV500 or DV1000. in any case Pinnacle Systems will have a solution. and most all of their higher end cards come with Adobe Premiere and FX software thrown in for free...

While its true that they make really good capture cards, they also have the worst support on the planet. I needed a driver once and was forced to wait 3 weeks for them to mail me another copy of the installation CD. Why can't they just post the drivers on their website like everyone else?
