This problem has been solved. Thanks for the advice! Don O'Van

I have some mp3's which play ok thru WinAmp, but when trying to copile them on a CD burn using Nero 5.x, Nero will give this message:

Warning: The MPEG3 file (songname).mp3 seems to be damaged!

As I say, the file will play perfectly but Nero chokes on the file during the drag-n-drop compilation process. I can download the mp3 again and usually get a non-damaged replacement, but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a proggy that will analyze a so-called "damaged" mp3 and repair any problems it finds.

I have had similiar problems trying to burn MP3's with Nero,It sometimes won't let me drag a corrupt or damaged file, I think this is to do with the conversion,is this MP3 a ripped one or did you download it?Try re-ripping it and make sure you bitrate is above 128 kbs...Otherwise good luck, that worked for me but if it is damaged all i can say is re-rip it....

It all has to do with the original wav that the mp3 was made from. It has to be of a certain make and model, or it can't be put on to a CD. Also, if there's any skipping or loss of synch in the mp3 nero can't make it nice and smooth to put on CD. Mr Myagi has the right solution: download from another source, or re-rip <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

it all depends on how the mp3 is ripped. there are two ways of doing it. One is picking a bit rate and the other is a variable bit rate that, I believe that the variable bit rate will possibly give you problems.

One way I've found that works is open the mp3 in an audio editor and save as .wav. Had to do that today burning someone's mp3 collection to CD audio for them. Seems to sort out any problems in the mp3, the disks played fine.

the problem with Mp3 ncoding is that you can use many ways to encode.

Winamp and many other players support almot all encoding types (stereo, joint stereo, dual stereo, vbr, fbr, different sampling rates etc...)

some programs have problems with some systems.

to be on the safe side always use Fixed bit rate of no more than 192bps, 44.1KHz sampling rate and use Joint stereo.

if you have problems with some mp3 files you will have to decode them (use winamps disk writer) to *.wav files and re-encode them using a the tips I just gave. also use a Lame based encoder - it works best.

Good Luck

All versions of nero burning rom do this... namely because the file you have might have a skip in the song ( may not be able to hear it even) and Nero checks it for bitrate consistency...however you may think your song is fine and you want to use it anyway..

SolutionL If you song sounds fine to you then convert it to WAV. format and nero wont check for bitrate.... it just lets you add whatever you want.. in wave format.

Its an extra step but nero wont come back with that error again.

Problem solved! Thanks to Jeff, Condor, and highspeedhamish for the tip about converting the mp3 to .wav format.
