I have a PC that has AOL 7.0 installed on it. You can browse the internet when your using the AOL Browser. But if i try to open IE and use that as my explorer it will not open web pages. I believe that i have heard about an registry hack to fix this issue, but i haven't used it for a while. All help is appericated.

Thanks

Rick

Once you open up IE, go to Tools/Internet Options/Conncections...make sure that AOL is selected as your Default. Then, check the box for Always Dial My Default Conncection...this should work for you.

Let us know how it goes...Good Luck!

I hate cutting/pasting answers from the MS KB, but this one worked for us earlier last week on a customers system. Keep in mind this is 98, haven't tried in other OS'es yet, YMMV in this case

good luck!

I must admit that I don't know anything about AOL 7.0...but, with 6.0, you could go ahead and sign on with AOL like you normally would. Then, minimize that screen. Then open up your IE...it should go straight to your Home Page...if you have followed all of the above advice concerning configuration settings, etc.

Like somebody else said, get rid of AOL and get a real ISP.

Got to admit I'm with the others on this, get rid of AOL can't think of any reason to have it, it's got to be the worst ISP I've ever used and they charge you for it!

If ao(Hel)l is the worst isp ever, why would it have over 30 million subscribers?

and oddly enough i have yet to experience any problems with my ao(hel)l.

"i just replied to this so i could see that new little feature at the bottom that averages you posts"

that is all.....

If 30 million people do something stupid, it's still something stupid.

AOL is a marketing company, not a tech company.

i think people hate aol because it's the cool thing to do.

i bet more than half the people that bash aol for being the worst isp ever...currently use it!!!

and what's so bad about it?

it does what it's supposed to...well for me anyways...

surf the web....chat with friends...send and receive email....and all the fluff...which is what people like aol for. the extra stuff...the interview with britney spears...a glimpse of her new video....

i think aol is just suffering the same fate as microsoft...just because it's the biggest in it's market people tend to hate them for no real reason.

don't get me wrong, i'm not saying that they are perfect, but they aren't the worst....

and this is all IMHO....

Oh no, my friend, you couldn't be more wrong here.

I hate AOL because I have had to fix so many systems that had it installed. And because I have had to work so hard to remove it from computers (like trying to go through someone's body cell by cell to get rid of an infection.) Add to that the fact that they overcharge customers for providing inferior service...

If this is true, it's only because they can't figure out how to unsubscribe and uninstall their software... ;)

Can you imagine having your business and all of your coworkers using AOL at work? Everybody would have theirname@aol.com. Hell, they would all get so much junk/spam email that it won't even be funny. Plus, also getting emails, IM's, etc. from all the pervs that use AOL.

And, you can't use Outlook or Outlook Express to check your email...you have to sign on to their stinking network just to check your email. Plus, when you're on AOL, it's not really the internet until you open up your browser and then all of that AOL crap just gets in the way.

I understand that using AOL's Keywords and chat rooms may be nice for you and make it easier for those who aren't internet savvy, but it is not feasible or practical for a company to be using. AOL is for your gramma and Uncle Bumpkin.

I used to have AOL when they sent out all of those CD's with free hours. Logging on was iffy at best. You would just get cut off or logged log for no apparent reason and with no warning...no way to run an ISP.

Like I said, get a real ISP.

My guess is that all of this AOL lynch chatter isn't helping the situation either.

Could we help this guy out, and leave the rambling to Techville? 90%+ of the people on this board feel the same way about AOL. There is no need to sell this point any more.

Anyway, I was at someone's house the other day, on AOL 7.0, and went to IE, for comfort; It worked fine. Two hours later, and having connected again, I could browse only with AOL, not IE. IE was in the 4.x version, and I looked over proxy settings, and connection settings, and finally gave up, without a solution. If I am ever there again, I hope I can figure it out; for me, not them. They love AOL, no matter how hard I try to convince them otherwise! :p

If anyone has any more ideas, please feel free.
