While setting up a new desktop, tweaking everything, loading apps and all that, I usually go into any app I can find to turn off automatic updating.

At this point, on one machine, with all the programs we use, I've had to turn off eight different application auto-updates. Since they don't always show up in the msconfig/startup menu, and we don't want internet processes running automatically, I was wondering...

Is there a tool that finds these things?

None that I know of, not even tweakUI or X-teq's stuff has anything in it. Honestly if anyone knows of one I'd be sorely interested as well!!

i suppose if you knew the reg entries to turn off each proggies auto-update then you could make a batch file. But dang that'd be painful to write!! well, maybe put a front end on it to allow you to check the names of the progs currently installed..hmmmmm

If this doesn't exist maybe I could scrounge some spare time together and wirte up a program for you fellows.

Just give me the registry entries I'd need to delete. I don't know what every program puts in.

Of course adding network functionality would be awesome...If I could run client apps and then run a batch registry edit from a server...That'd be cool. Maybe a little research needs to be done for that one though.

you'd need to build a library of reg entries for the proggies, their different versions *course like only the last 2-3 versions*, test it on different OS'es. As far as it working over a NW, that might be a skosh difficult. Unless you install and deploy from a server to the clients with full access priviledges on the wk stations. XP would promise top be a challenge with its layout of user profiles, that'd take some serious reg digging though..would disbling for one user disable it for all users? honestly dunno. If i had the time to look into this i might try it out..but if anyone has the urge and would like an alpha tester, shoot me an email or pm!

Also you need to make the Lord Gods own disclaimer for your own sake though for it though as IANAL!!
