What do you recommend?

I want to get a CD burner and I want to know which brand do you recommend?

Plextor is the best (anyone will tell you that..)

Yamaha are also very good..

TDK are also very good (they're actually
plextors..)

Smart and Friendly (Yamaha based) ..

Avoid HP, Creative, any unknown/cheap bramds (liteon, btc, oti...)

As usual Superb has steered you in the right direction. You cant go wrong with a plextor

Ummm, why not go SCSI as well. I still don't trust ATAPI CD-RW's, I'd rather have my burner on a seperate i/o bus, than sharing the IDE with my HD.

Oh yeah, Plextor is IMO the best you can get.

Plextor 16x10x40x SUX! Had one for 2 months and its dead already! Spent an hour on hold for their "tech support" finally answered at 5:20. BUT at 5:30 their phones just shut down! An hour to hear "flash the drive make sure u have the right drivers for your motherboard" then they hang up!!!!!!!!!!

The drive doesnt even spin up!!!

My scsi Matsu****a (panasonic) has literaly burnt thousands of cd's without 1 floater!!!

I have been using both LG and Lite-on drives for a few years now and both have never failed me yet. Maybe I'm lucky but I would say get either one of those. Good value and comes with the adaptec software program too.
Price for a 12x10x32 IDE drive around $129. Excellent value !! <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0">

i have had a SCSI Ricoh 2x2x6 for the last 4 years or so and have had one bad burn, it rocks (i know its slow but it works all the time everytime). ide burners are cheaper, but i would recommend checking out a SCSI burner.

Thanks a lot everyone! Plextor it is. I used my son's CD Burner and got hooked, so now I want my own <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0"> I almost forgot to ask this...should I set it up on the same channel as the CD-ROM drive, and should I set it as the master?

Note: Have recently used both the Plextor and Yamaha 16x10x40's. Both worked great but the Yamaha definitely burned faster using the same generic 16x media.

i hate to see you put down some of the creative stuff then again when i bought mine way back they were made by panasonic

works with it as well as my smart and freindly mines the jvc model got a few sony s too any way a freind of mines a dj and dont know much abot em but he said few suport the karaoke feature of mixed data and audio

as far as creative s readers i agree not a wize choice seen them with the same speed number and 2 different manufactures
ive had to copy the win98 directory to the
hard drive on several machines with there cds in them because setup fails to read the cd
very pickey with light scratches

I had a Hp burner (which i believe is a very very good burner) for about a year, until i traded it for one of those lite-on burners ( www.liteonit.com.tw (http://www.liteonit.com.tw) ) This burner is increadable, not only do i have one, but the place where i work sells them like mad!! They are great because of the burn-proof technology (like someon said earlier in the thread) anyways once you use it once you could never go back to a regular driver, plus its not much more expensive or anything, so price doesn't affect the decision. But definately try one of those, cause they rock
