It seems more and more people are getting dvd's installed in their computers I have noticed that there are dvd players out there
that will not only play dvd and audio cd but also play mp3! I myself have gone through 2 cd players( they never seem to make it pass their warrenties) I am getting angery at having to replace a cd player with a new one every year and a half or so. So my question is ,Are theses machinces any better,
panasonic, jvc, and zenith are a few. I apologize if this is not the right forum for this question but I'm sure you techs mite have an opinion on this <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Don't worry. You posted on the right forum.
Well, if I had to buy a DVD player, I would get a Pioneer or an Asus one.

I'm actually using and old Hitachi (2x DVD/16x cd) which I found on clearance somewhere. It's 2 years old now and I've never had any problems.

I have just upgraded my DVD from the Creative 5x to the Toshiba 16x DVD, and both are great.
The main thing for DVD is your video card or decoder card for the player. Go with a good known brand name.
I run mine on the Matrox DVD Player for my G400 Max card.

I've got an Acer 16x DVD drive, and have had no problems with it. Then again, I hardly ever use it, using my Kenwood 72x CD-ROM for almost everything. I only use the DVD drive for DVD movies or the Encarta Reference Suite. It seems to work just fine for both.

I think that replies so far have not picked up the exact nature of this post. From what I can make of the original post (if I am wrong please correct me) is that the poster is looking for recomendations for a HOME DVD Player not a PC drive.
If this is correct then any of the Sony or Pioneer range are a good buy, but if you want something a little special and not standard 'off the shelf' then the Lasonic DVD2000 is a very good buy. Plays VCD,DVD, CDA & MP3, has both DTS & Dolby Digital & is Multi Region straight from the Box (buy entering Keycode on remote control whilst drawer is open, no chipping required). The Lasonic is also cheaper than many of the Brand Name players as well.
Personally, I use a Minato (sp?) DVD player which is bottom line but does the job I want it to do and I am very impressed by it's features at the low price. The only things I would have liked would be MP3 & VCD support, but for the low cost you cannot grumble.
If it is a PC DVD Player that you are looking for then any of the Toshiba or Pioneer range are very good although some of the SCSI Pioneer drives do not have SP-DIF output.

Thankyou, Mr.Siffredi.
It was in fact a home dvd player I was talking about.
