Strange problem

A friends cdrom stopped working so I have now tried the original and another in the computer using differant combinations of configurations with slaves and master and ide channels. Problem is only about 1 in 5 cds can be accessed and it is always the same titles and thats with either drive. This seems to point to a configuration problem
Any ideas?

Are these cds music, program or home burnt cd's.
