I just set up a new system w/ a PC Chips 810lmr mobo, 30GB HDD and an Afreey 50x cdrom. Everything went fine on the initial install, except whenever I reboot Windows, the CDrom disappears from my device mgr and my computer. If I totally shut eveything off and repower, it comes back until Windows reboots, or I do a soft reboot. Here's what I have tried:
Checked all cabling and jumpers
CDrom is set for master/ secondary
Replaced IDE cable
Replaced CDRom
Set up CDRom as slave on the primary, initially found it, then dissappeared on reboot again
My Bios settings are on Auto for primary and secondary slave and master
Tried loading CDRom driver from disk, same thing
All I can think of now is maybe a BIOS flash?
Any suggestions?

I've be saying this for the last few day,but anyway try this at a dos promt { reboot and choose command promt) type "scanreg /fix" (with out the quote marks), this should fix the problem...... <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/biggrin.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/smile.gif" border="0">

Thanks Sly, I'll try it. Since it's a new install, I hope it's got a known good registry to access.

No good. I'm swapped the mobo. Workin now. I hate PC Chips mobos! Thing is, I just got this one back from a previous RMA. You'd think they could send me one that works. Obviously a bad IDE controller.

Thats the way it works, they just keep sending them back with very little on the repairs side. It cost you money and time...LOL

You're right about that! I really hate it when they actually replace it and you get an older version of the product you sent in! Really irks me, man. I guess you just gotta get used to round filing parts from time to time and chalk it up to the cost of doing business. <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0">

I brought this one back up because I still have the mobo here, and the more I thought about it, the I thought this could be solved. I also found a chip in the original Duron 700 I was using at the time. So, I'm back with a fresh Duron 750 and a new case and PS. This time I have some time to play with it.
Symtom revisited: From cold boot, everything's fine. Gets thru post great. On a warm reboot, post cannot ID CDRom. It is an Afreey 50x. I have tried different processor, BIOS flash, case/ps, IDE cable, and HDD w/ fresh 98SE loaded.
What should I be checking, maybe MSCDEX in Windows directory?

Never mind! Got everything put back together and it's working fine. Wish I knew what I did to fix it! <IMG SRC="smilies/rolleyes.gif" border="0">

Iam Not Sure What Your Operating System Is But Use A 80 Con.cable And Set Your Primary(master Drive To Cable Select ) Than Set The Second Drive To Cable Select(second Ide Devives) Than Connect The Cable To Your Computer,your Computer Will Automatic Set Up Drives,on Your Screen.[quote]

Yeah I think so too Matt :), so I'll close this one up to save on any more confus-ed-ness, as I can manage quite enough of that on my own ! :D
