I want to re-format my HDD. Created a start-up disk and tryed to load the mscdex.exe command line from the disk's autoexec.bat onto the floppy but its not there. Also, opened the config.sys on the HDD and all it says is FILES=50. I'm running Win 95 OSR1. I need to re-format and start clean, startin to get lots crashes now. haven't really done anything except de-frag the HDD a couple times since 1996. Please help! thanx in advance :-)

The easiest way to do this is to run the install.exe/setup.exe from the floppy that came with your cd-rom drive, let it write the files to your config.sys and autoexec.bat, do a format & copy system files, copy mscdex (should be in windows) to the floppy, and make sure that the auto/config files are set to point to it on the floppy rather than hard drive. Also make sure you have utilities like fdisk/format on the floppy before you trash.

Actually its not that easy if you have not done it b4 is it http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif

Have a go,

Joe, drop me an e-mail at jon@gants.freeserve.co.uk

i can e-mail you the contents of a boot disk that will let you access your cd-rom and get you going. It uses a universal driver that should work for you.
