Is everything ok there? ------------------ My Hardware Info, Hardware Media and Computer History page (http://www.geocities.com/alienhardware) zejiesse September 26th, 2001, 04:34 AM scan your system for viruses. I used to have the prob on 2 pc's... Parity boot b viruses found. Ok in bios, ok with boot floppy and cd drivers, but not found in Windows. ------------------ Jiesse cb September 26th, 2001, 08:23 AM hi, on this Asus P7L97 m/b with 128ram, I have a Master, 2.5did MAxtor and a 24X creative labs cd set as the secondary on that channel. The LG CDRW is Master on its own channel with a 8" cable. Upon bootup, the bios see's all three as it should be. The light goes on at bootup. I installed a DOS IDE driver and the yellow exlamation mark disappeared in Device Manager but it still didnt recognize the cdrw. CONFIG SYS: "LASTDRIVE=Z DEVICEHIGH=C:\CDROM\GSCDROM.SYS /D:MSCD000 /v" AUTOEXEC.BAT: "LH C:\CDROM\MSCDEX /D:MSCD000" I tried REM each seperately and together and still not going, yet IDE Second channel has a wrong driver. My computer does NOT recognize the PArallel ZIP drive, but the software isnt loaded (shouldnt matter though, eh?) Im running McAfee Enterprise 2001 thats updated automaticaly when they update their site. Ive ran a thorough scan, nothing. I'm getting frustrated as its been close to two months now. =o( Any other ideas? Im willing to test anything, even reloading W98se . . .sorry its so long reply. Jediab September 28th, 2001, 04:07 PM I do not know that Asus motherboard. What chipset is it and what processor are you using? ------------------ I am not clever enough to put anything of any interest in this spot cb September 28th, 2001, 04:14 PM Intel 440LX chipset, using, actualy, the first ever PII ..the 233. when i unplug the cdrw, it boots fine with NO problems in Device Mgr, attach it and theres problems. I run the dos drivers for it, which you saw above, and it still dont find it. very annoying now. MacGyver September 28th, 2001, 04:31 PM I have that same motherboard and processor at home. I have 4 IDE devices installed in my computer without any problems. HD, CD, CDRW, and internal ZIP. If the CDRW is not being detected, then there are a couple of things to check. First is the IDE cable. Sometimes they can go flakey and cause all sorts of trouble. The other thing to check is if the CDRW is bad. Try installing it in another computer and see if it works. If not, then you probably have a dud. I'm leaning towards this explanation since you can't get it working in DOS or Windows. Whatever you do, don't try applying any of the patches for the chipset - they are designed for Win95a only and will mess up your Win98 machine! ------------------ http://www3.sympatico.ca/corey.reynolds/avatars/cdnflag2.gif I help others in the name of my Lord, Jesus Christ. cb September 28th, 2001, 04:37 PM okay will try that. I can install it on a few other machines, got 12 others, but this is the only one with the "requirements". What if I just downgrade to W95, think it will work then? Im willing to try anything cb September 28th, 2001, 06:21 PM UPDATE: I switched the cdrom and CDRW. the CDRW is now the Slave to the HDD on IDE1, the cdrom is Master on IDE2 yet it doesnt work. So now the burner works, but the cdrom doesnt. I assume it IS the IDE2 port thats screwed? How do I fix that then, since its not the cdrom thats screwed.... ? windrivers.com
