Compaq motherboard?

Someone I know (fellow mod at a forum) bought a Compaq (against my judgement, but hey, he's happy) and we're trying to find out what motherboard it has.

Does Compaq make their own motherboards or something?

NNNNNNope. Not. They contract Intel (Usually) to make proprietary boards for them. I ahve a stack of them, with NO PS/2 ports for mouse or keyboard. Have to use USB only.

This is an AMD system ;)

AMD 760 chipset. Reads "Compaq 07BCg" or something like that in HWInfo. Any ideas?

I would definitely use SiSoft Sandra, or another similar diagnostic to get valuable information about the whole system.

Compaq usually get propriety boards made for them by other manufacturers, now this is okay with barebones boards, you can use sisoft or similar to try to diagnose the underlying chipset, but not always(some integrated sound/video chipsets give screwy results).

With integrated boards the plot thickens, as they just seem to use any old sh*t in all sorts of combinations. Compaq support stinks for end users and is only geared up for 'fleet' business. So if you have 2000 machines with some driver error they fix it, if you only have one they expect your dealer to support it.

Ever played spot the model on the compaq site??
I guess Jungleboy is in for a long game. They don't even know what they 'produce' so how the hell are we supposed to know.

Now...are they removing the BIOS string that tells what model it is? Because it read as Compaq 07bch. I always heard Compaq uses FIC but apparently not in this case. Although I talked to another guy who pulled a Trend board from a Compaq.

Compaq contracts out to other manufacturers. I'd imagine it changes from model to model. I've spotted a few boards that I'm positive are MSI in some of their newer systems....

I've seen few Compaqs (Pressario 4000 iP-120, not sure about model,though),what had TI (Texas Instruments) chipset. Almost all chips in those Compaqs also were made by TI... not Intel,nor VIA nor AMD... :eek:

Ehh, interesting, didn't know TI made chipsets...I'd imagine they are probably very slow, incompatible, etc.

Being a Compaq employee (oh the shame), most of the boards in the Deskpro systems are made by Intel and ECS. For Presarios, usually ECS, MSI, and one other but don't remember who it was.

This thing could be an MSI k7 master then with the BIOS string removed. I'll have to check it.

i must be honest with you,i work in a branch or a major it store here in s.a and we have alot of returns with compaqs..notebooks you name it,

if you want give me the name and model of your pc and ill see if i can get the motherboard model etc because i can contact them faster then the ordinary consumer.

Go here for <a href="http://www3.compaq.com/support/reference_library/selectproduct.asp" target="_blank">Compaq's Reference Library</a>. Depending on the model, you can usually find the Quick Reference Guide and/or Service Manuals.

i am working on a compaq presario 5000, model# ps-6151-6c1..i had to put in a new hard drive, loaded win2000, now i need to load onboard sound-display-and so fourth.
please lead me in the right direction to get these drivers for my mb....my customer does not have any software that came with pc...please help

I don't remember exactly, what MB model Presario 5000 used, but model
numbers you can find printed between slots...
Then we can find all the drivers...
