I have a Gateway E-4200,Intel PentII mobo, 224 mb of ram.CD/RW is a Yamaha 8x8x24.Software is Adaptec Easy CD creator 4. The problem? No matter what speed I set it to, it will get to between 30%&50% writing the track(data cd)and the machine will freeze. It REALLY hates Imation cdrs and I have had some better luck with Memorex. Any hints or words of wisdom would be appreciated.

You can try a few things:
1) Completely remove/reinstall Adaptec Easy CD Creator.
2) Try a different software CD-R burning program. i.e. Nero, CDR-Win.
3) Upgrade to Easy CD Creator 5.
4) Check and see if there is a firmware upgrade for your CD burner.
Hope this helps.

Imation CDR's are known to be funny in regards to writing to especially with Audio with the last 30 minutes of the CD sometimes being unreadable. The Imation CD's are made by CMC Magnetics, who are known in the CDR Industry as making sub-standard media.
I have recently been using the TDK D-View Media (Green Box item code CD-RDVG80ED) with no problems at all and also the Samsung Digitall CD-R 80S Silver discs & Memorex 74 minute (part no. 829306-25) with no coasters what-so-ever even with BurnProof turned off (writing at 24x even though the discs are not rated that high).

No offense bull dog but I have to highly recommend against doing this. I believe this program is even more buggy than AOL. It's horrible and won't even work on 2k. Just my $0.02.

similar setup here (scsi) 8824 yam and a plex t40 on a bx board
am using nero 5. it works!!!!
have had 2 replacement drives (both gone dead)
recieved adaptec with one of them ,,,,,it caused a lot of probs.
also tried NTI cdmaker pro (2000?) had reasonable luck with that
the easiest way (after coaster parties) is NERO 5 repeat 5. for drag and drop (backups) and CLONE CD for DIRECT copying
after you wade thru yams website (yawn yawn) there are NO upgrades for the 8824.
defrag your setup ........i know youve heard it before ,,,creck msconfig/ alt/ctl/del and check what is running ,,,,,,explorer and systray ONLY.save your image to another directory as apossed to temp , try copying from your yam -to your yam as opposed to cd - to recorder.
good luck freddy

Hmmm...
My company had a similar problem with Imation 80 minute/700MB CD-R discs.
Someone created 4 coasters and 2 blanks would not be recognized by the Smart & Friendly burner here. Took one of those blanks home to see if it would work on my home burner....worked like a charm... http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/smile.gif
However, due to horror stories as well as a bad experience I had with no-name media in creating audio CDs, I personally will only buy Mitsui, Taiyo-Yuden, or other known GOOD name brands.
Has anyone here tried CD-Rs made by CD-Recordable.com?
I may try them out sometime....
I should also add that the burner at work uses Adaptec 4 Easy CD Creator software whereas I was using Nero 5 at home.

First of all thanks for all the advice. I uninstalled and reinstalled cd creator 4. Cleaned out everything but the vitals with msconfig, ran scandisk, ran defrag.I'm using TDK cd/r disks.I was hopeful when the writing process was at 85%....I was positive it was McAfeee....I was wrong. 85% and it frooze.
I think I should give Nero a try. The thing is I'm trying to burn Ghost images so I would probably save myself some frustration by upgrading Ghost http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/smile.gif DOH!

there is now a firmware upgrade for the yam 8824....
http://perso.club-internet.fr/farzeno/firmware/ make sure you get the correct 8824 ,,ie ide or scsi .
have chaced it back to sorce ,,,,,DMA is not an option on the 8824 ,,,,DONT leave a cd in the machine , and when u reboot leave power off for 15 secs.
have tried the upgrade path ,,,,in order to make life easier (hopefully to stop "lag" when reading disks) ,,,,cannot see any differences,
the above site is a good site for ALL CDs CDRs and DVDs firmware upgrades
i spotted this link on another forum ....i think we have "CONDOR" to thank for this
