[RESOLVED] Auto Insert in W2000

I have just put together an Athlon 1.4, 512MB DDR2100, 2X40GB hard disk drives on an EPOX RAID Mobo.

The DVD drive is a Hitachi GD7500 and the CDRW is a Plextor 40X16X10 (each drive is on a seperate IDE channel).

As I was installing the OS and all the drivers etc any CD placed in the Hitachi would spin up and auto start as normal.

Now I have finished installation, neither the DVD or the CDRW will acknowledge a disk unless Win2000 is restarted with the disks left in the drives.

I have installed/removed the VIA Bus Mastering drivers supplied but this has made no difference.

Within device manager everything seems fine and I get no other errors with the PC at all.

Anybody know what the problem could be?

Your CD burning software (read: DirectCD) might be to blame. Try getting a patch from www.roxio.com (http://www.roxio.com) if you're using EasyCD, or uninstall DirectCD altogether.

I heard that Win2000 has an issue with ATAPI devices. Service Pack 2 was supposed to fix it.

Give SP2 a try and let us know how it worked out.

Service pack 2 came with my Windows 2000 so it's already installed.

Direct CD is installed so I'll try removing it.

The Plextor Tools Suite has the option to enable/disable auto-insert notification within it. Sometimes the supplied burning software will disable the notification by default on the install, which can be re-enabled using teh PlexTools.
