[RESOLVED] CDR compatibility

okay ye gurus and those who consider themselves as such a friend recorded an audio cd and it plays perfectly well in a normal cd player cd rom drive and such but in a ( panasonic ) dvd player it wouldent work... i would welcome any thoughts that are not on the side of absurdity http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/smile.gif

How fast did your friend burn the audio CD?? If it was burnt at a high speed (8x & upwards) then it could be that the 'pits' burnt into the media are not deep enough for the DVD player lens to read correctly. Also the colour base of the media can play a large part also. I have seen some home (and in-car) CD players that will not read gold based media, yet will read blue or green with no problems, & vice versa. Try writing the CD at a lower speed (2x or for best results single speed) or/and different media.

here in the UK , a nieghbor bought an "expensive" toshiba dvd/amp/tuner, and NON of his "copied" (his origional were in his car) would play on it ,they would play on his daughters "cheap" bedroom walkman type thing.
he rung up the retailer and told them to remove the POS and get him a system that worked! ...... he told them that he would cancel the payment , they brought him a different system .....and guess what ....it now plays ALL this CDs origionals +copies.
just because it costs a "K" and has a brand name ,,,,,dont mean its good

I have had experiences very similar with both DW and Freddy. I only use blue media for music and I've seen dozens of instances where a disk plays fine on one drive and not another. To go a little further, I still encounter 40X CDROMs that won't read any "home burned" CD's and old 1x and 2x drives that surprise, surprise, read my 'tools' CD's just fine.

I fellow employee at my work purchased a Panasonic mini-system and discovered that it wouldn't play any of his burnt CD's. The manufacturer said that this particular unit would only read certain colour CD's. He ended up exchanging it for a model that would play his CD collection.

I have just started using the TDK D-VIEW 80 Minute Media (Item Code CD-RDVG80ED) and had no problems with them so far with audio (as long as you don't burn them at high speed with Audio). They are blue based media.

I have a Panasonic DVD in my putey, It plays DVD's lovely but it dislikes most standard CD's. It started off fine but doesn't want to know now. I've flashed the firmware to no avail. I have an 8x Hitachi CD drive, now I fixed it, that loads and plays everything. I think DVD players make p1ss poor CD players, so don't rely on them. They pick up and spin too slowly.
