I think everyone should check this out, especially those of you with AMD CPU's & Huge or Cheap HSF's.
This is what happens if your HSF fails & your CPU overheats. (http://www4.tomshardware.com/images/THG_CPU_Cooling.zip)

Wow, you must... I was born two years later. I'm not really suprised that it would have done that, just glad to see someone wasting the money so that we may see exactly what it looks like. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/cwmsmilies/cwm1.gif

Waaaaaaayyyyyyyy cooooool! It actually makes some nice points for getting an intel chip, but it also shows WHY those with AMD slot A processors need good cooling.

Nice propagada *ntel! That clip was geared toward true gamers and hardcore pc'ers, but who cares? Only lusers would pay for their onboard temp sensor. True gamers would have a decent mobo to take care of that or have an external mod. AMD *smokes* their chips everyday. If you need a company that will babysit you processor, go ahead. Arrgh!

Sorry but this is not propaganda at all, but an independant demonstration of what could happen if your HSF actually came away from your CPU (or is not fitted properly). If you noticed the speed (a couple of seconds) that the AMD chips started to smoke (literally) you wouldn't even have time to do anything basically if your HSF became unattached, and the temperature that the CPU's reach is literaly stupidity!!! I have seen HSF's fall away from the highest end boards after the retaining lugs on the socket have broken & with the weight of todays cooling systems it gives you something to think about.
Intel have got the thermal throttling diode built into the P4 & P3 cpu's which AMD have tried to do with the Palomino core (and by the looks of things, have failed to make any real difference). Has anyone thought that this reason could be part of why Intel chips are more expensive than AMD chips??
Personally, even before seeing this video, I am now looking more & more to going back to an Intel based system towards the beginning of next year, not down to speed (as I don't play games on my PC's for the reason that is not what they were designed for and why pay £300 for a video card when I can get a console that is the same for the same amount & have less chance of problems).
Right, I am now about to fit a smoke detector inside my machine now http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/biggrin.gif

HEY! How did they get a video of the first thunderbird system that I built?!?
I fried a 1.2ghz chip in 10 seconds with the heat sink on wrong. My dumb mistake but that's nuts that a chip can flash fry so quickly.

now type format c: and press enter and you will never have a pc problem ever again...

over 500 degrees C???!??! http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum1/noncgi/eek.gif Holy moly, this is probably the best evidence I have seen in the infamous Intel/AMD debate. I had no idea - I thought the two were comparable in heat rejection. This explains why the new P800's our office has been getting do not have an HSF on them, only a big heatsink with air drawn across them via the P/S fan.
