PSU too noisy

My computer is quite a noisemaker..first I took out all the case fans. Didn't make a difference (so obviously I put them back in).

Tried a Thermaltake 31cfm CPU fan rated 10db lower than my delta. Still no difference.

So I have targeted it down to my Antec 412 (400w) power supply. How hard would it be to replace the fan in these things ?I know they use standard 80mm fans but just not sure if it would involve soldering, etc, as i've never soldered stuff before.

Warning! There are lots of volts in a power supply, even when they are unplugged. Messing abiut with the internals of a PSU is a good way to fry yourself. I do not reccommend you mess about inside a PSU unless you are qualified to.

Try greasing the bearings first, changing a fan isn't that difficult, you can solder then, but I just use terminal blocks.

Why change the fan? Why not just get rid of all the dust that is in there???

It is a simple job to change the fan. Open up the PSU, making sure that you do not touch any of the capacitors. Unplug the fan from the header socket inside, snip the header connector off (as most use different ones to the standard MoBo or Molex 4 pin connectors) and then join the corresponding wires up accordingly. Job done.

BTW some of the Antec PSU's use 92mm fans, but the majority are 80mm.
