AMD is reporting more and more losses. Intel is still gaining and merced is almost complete. If the Athlon isn't a big success what's next for AMD? They can't just keep losing money, they need to make some to stay alive. Without them what will keep Intel from having $1000 cpu's? Nothing!
If the Athon is a big success will it catch up to Intel? My guess is no. Athlon is for sale at the moment but do you see any ads for it? No. Do you see ads for intel products? Yes. If you know nothing about computers what would you buy? Intel or that Amd computer that I haven't really heard of? You'd buy intel.
AMD is on thin ice at the moment and if the Athlon doesn't bring a lot of profits I think this could be the end of them.
Then you say well what about cyrix? In my opinion they will never be intel standards. Amd is already at intel standards and is about to pass them with the athlon.
Well what do you think? Is this the near end of Amd?

Think about it, but not to hard don't want to give you a headache.
