There were 90 Million 486 Pc's sold, perhaps over half if not more are still in use. AMD tried to help them overcome the bloatware coming out of Redmond, Provo, Santa Clara, etc. by creating the pin compatible 5x86 chip. Unfortunately, it was a losing effort as the bloatware only got fatter with more and more "features" used only by hard core gamers or advanced programmers and not real world business or home users. So, how difficult would it be for some entrepeurial company to take a VL-Bus / PCI bus daughter card and slap an AMD K6-2 on it? Except for a small number of applications, the 33 MHz bus on VL-Bus & PCI board should be more than adequate. Afterall, Windows was developed on 8 MHz bus PCs.
