Does anyone know if Asus and the AMD K6-2-500 cpu have some kind of problems? I have just put the rage Fury 32mb AGP vid in my machine and now it seizes up shortly after I start up any 3d intensive games or programs, Also does anyone know the jump[er settings for the Asus P5A mobo for the AMD 500 mhz cpu, my manual only goes to 450mhz. I have 192mb sdram pc100, S/B live, ATI Rage Fury 32mb, 13gig 7200rpm hdd, Ricoh4x4x24 burner, 100mb zip, creative 5x DVD, USR 56k ISA modem
plenty of cooling fans and a 300 watt p/s. HELP I cant stand another crash, I am using Win98 2nd.

The BUS and Voltage settings are on the board. They are also in the manual on pg.16. You could also look it up at http://www.asus.com/Products/Motherboard/manual_sock7.html
As far as the video locking up, I would look at the video card. ATI does not work real well with socket7 boards. http://support.atitech.ca/infobase/3047.html
You could try downloading the latest drivers from ATI and follow the directions to the letter, when installing. They are very specific on how to install the drivers.
The drivers are at http://support.atitech.ca/drivers/win98_4126269.html

Also make sure that you have the latest BIOS version for your P5A. I have the same combination of CPU and motherboard (except mine is the P5A-B) and have not had any trouble. I agree with Larommi that the Ati video card is causing the problems. I tried an Ati card for a while and had problems just like you are having - lock-ups in 3D games. I bought a Voodoo Banshee card and haven't had a bit of trouble since.

and voltages are the same as the amd 333
you can also set the multiplier to 6 and set the bus frequency to 83 mhz
if you run it at 83 mhz the settings are
fs3 2-3
fs2 1-2
fs1 2-3
fs0 1-2
bf0 2-3
bf1 1-2
bf2 empty ( no jumper )

According to ASUS this board (P5A) has a 100mhz bus, not a 66. In which case you'd be hurting your speed if you clocked it to 83mhz. http://www.asus.com/Products/Motherboard/Pentium/P5a/index.html
I've used a couple super socket 7's that didnt have all the jumper settings on the board. Both Tyan and FIC have boards like this. You might hunt on their web site for updates to the jumper settings and see if they have a setting for a 5 multiplier. Thus (5 x 100 = 500mhz).

Something that hasn't been suggested is to upgrade your power supply to something like 250W or 300W.
Might Help.

We have sent out several hundred of that chip and board combo with no problems. If you have the clock set to 500mhz with 100mhz bus, you should be fine there. Every time I have run across this, it has been a case of not enough cooling from the heatsink. You can try a sink and fan designed for the k-6 chip, without it people have had alot of problems around my area.

Many years ago for my turbo XT I aquired an ATI VGA card + mouse and discovered that trash charatures were being displayed. I took the board back to the store and exchanged it, and tried it again with the same results. In talking with ATI support they suggested moving the card from slot 8 to a slot closer (I think I went to slot 3) to the power supply. This resolved the problem. Might give that a try.

Well ther is only ONE AGP slot on any board
Since your problems began with the card then I would suspect the card is not right for the board , I tried an ATI expert98 16 meg agp in my P5a-b and in MW 3 I had multiple shadows and I also got stack faults and I could no even get onto the Winodws update sight
I have since shighed away from ATI products
I have ran a 3-d blaster riva tnt 2 with a cooling fan in that board and it has move with my upgrade to a Giggabyte board based on the Via chipset, I run a Celery now and I also have better video support
I would reccomend you change the video card
