I just installed the fix to enable Windows 95 to work properly. This is fine except now it takes about 2-3 minutes to bootup. During bootup, it stops on the Windows95 logo screen and the HD light stays on for ages (but stops whirring), after a while it goes off, then after another wait, it continues loading windows 95. i assume the fix has somehow affected the OS. Can anybody advise?

Which ver of 95 are you running?
Are you on a network?
Sometimes a network card will slowdown a system when it is seeking connections.

No, no network card at all. It's the latest version of Windows 95 (ie. last build if i'm correct).

If your system does continue to boot but, takes excessively long I think you'd have a conflict somewhere, windows sounds as if it is seeking a way to boot but is being forced to redirect itself in an attempt to do so successfully. If you updated your system with Win95 ver B over an existing system then, it sounds like this problem can be traced back to the windows boot process and the configuration files that control it.
First I would go to safe mode and check to see if there are duplicate devices listed and remove them and verify that only the devices listed are installed, (I know this is basic stuff but I don't know where you skill level is at),Secondly, try using the "Bootlog"(.txt) next time you start windows and read the text file afterwards, that can help narrow your search for failed load attempts, and also simply try Re-Running set-up over your current installation but choose "verification" so that win95 only verifies windows required files, the VMM32.VXD, and, incorrect registry entries. If any are corrupt windows will over or rebuild if necessary.
If none of this works
good 'ol format and clean install will take care of it... http://www.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smile.gif
Good Luck...
Oh, one last thing, if you have an older motherboard check for bios updates, K6-III's are only fast if there recognized and the 3D NOW! is optimized at the bios level.

Search this site for vxd fix or similar and you will find another program which should get rid of delays!
