i'm having a problem when i go to shut my computer down,it keeps restarting instead of shutting down?? anyone have any
suggestions

Is your computer a gateway?

I came across a similar problem with one of my customers. I beleive it is a problem in the motherboard, probably caused by power problems in the past.

I had to disable powermanagement in CMOS and I changed the powere supply to a 250watt (gateway had installed a 145watt). This allowed the computer to go to the "Now it is safe to turn the computer off" screen and one touch of the power button shut it down. Auto shutdown would not work, only reboot the computer!!

The customer related to me that when the computer was new he had the same problem and gateway replaced the powersupply.

PS: Just noticed the forum topic, guess this doesn't apply to an athlon. But may still be power supply related.

YOU NEED A POWER SUPPLY OF 250WATTS OR BETTER AND UPGRADE YOUR BIOS FOR THE MB .I HAVE THE SAME MB WITH A K-7 500,128 MB,WITH A 300 POWER SUPPLY AND A UP TP DATE BIOS.

If you are running Win98SE, try this fix. Worked for me on a different system with the same problem.
