HighTech March 23rd, 2000, 11:54 PM I have an AMD 450 ,running on a FIC 503+ mainboard, 64 meg PC100. and would like any help on overclocking it that I can get. THANX IN ADVANCE kannibul April 10th, 2000, 10:48 AM check you manual for settings, basicly - try till you fry it. then take it down a notch... [This message has been edited by kannibul (edited April 10, 2000).] Paul Cunningham April 10th, 2000, 01:48 PM I've overclocked my 450 to 500 by increasing the multiplier to 5 and the voltage to 2.3 ( .1 above what it should be ) Don't forget the the value of a LARGE heatsink and a smear of heatsink paste. gardener April 14th, 2000, 12:00 AM I have the same setup, except running EDO ram so i have to fudge the ram timings more than you. Anyway, can push my 2.2v 450 to 504 if I bump to voltage to 2.4v. That's 112 x 4.5. It ran fine at that voltage, except for one application (a game) where the application would occasionally shut down under load. After lots of trial and error, I find that it runs without error at 2.5v. But after 45 minutes or so it builds up some heat at 2.5v and I would again develop instability in my game. The program RAIN which is a cpu tweak fixed the heat problem. And all my benchmarks still test out the same. It is not a very overclockable processor tho but the tweak ultimately made the difference. fyi i am running my bios/chipset settings at the "setup" default. gardener April 20th, 2000, 03:30 AM I have some more information. The 503+, as of 4/10/00, has a new bios which may or may not be useful to you. My board is 4 months old and now FIC is claiming that using 500 and 550mhz chips on anything but certified boards (company sticker on board indicating it is certified to run 500/550) will result in lots of I/O errors = sytem crash. So the new bios is supposed to be used only on these certified boards, but no indication of what the new bios is supposed to correct. Anyway, i flashed the bios anyway (I am a maniac) and, although the post speed is still incorrectly reported as 481 (its actually 504 per benchmarks) the sytem now runs stable at 504 without Rain. Additionally, small block memory read/write rates have increased over 25%. HighTech April 21st, 2000, 09:02 PM thanx gardener,im not very fimiliar with flashing bios, but may give it a try anyways...any more help would b helpfull also thanz man windrivers.com
