I'm having a very dificult time installing win95 on a AMD K6 2/400. The install just stops.
I have a recent 95b disk.
Does anyone have a system like this up and running? Can it be done?
Thanks

There is a patch for using a k62 that is over 350mhz
to use it you will probably have to jumper it down to 350 or so and install the os then install hte amd patch
after you install the patch you can shut down and reset the jumpers to the proper settings for your processor
you can find the patch at http://www.amd.com/support/software.html

and just a word of advice-you must re-install the patch if you install the usb update. i usally do the full install at 300 mhz and only change to the higher speed when every thing is in. I also leave the patch somewhere on the hard drive, in case another program overwrites the files.

Thanks for the input -
It now appears we are not even getting that far. After booting from the floppy and identifying the right CDROM drive, I fdisk and format the hard drive. Switch to the CDROM drive and run install. It checks the disk and looks to go - but the screen says: Please wait while set up initializes
Copying files needed for windows setup
After about 20 seconds of blinking curser - the cdROM winds down and the machine just sits there with a blinking curser.
Any thoughts?

Not sure about the last part of the problem, but I can tell you that you should underclock it for now to 300 - the problem is with k6-2's *350* and above, not just speeds over 350, so 350 will still cause problems...

Got the solution? I had dropped the cpu clock speed, but not the bus speed. Once I did that - everything went as planned.
It will be interesting to see if I can turn up the bus speed - or just the CPU speed. As the CPU is a multipier of the bus speed - it ought to work. We'll see.
Thanks for all of your help!

Go to www.bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com) to obtain autoload disk for win95. Then set boot in CMOS to A as first boot device. Boot from floppy then os should load.
1.) Question Did you repartition drive as fat 32 and did you remove fat 16 partition from drive with dos 16 bit fdisk.
Look at the partition programs on Bootdsik.com. http://forums.windrivers.com/cgi-bin/forum/smilies/cwm15.gif
